So if we look at the current ladder positions we have picks 8, 15, 26 & 33 as our top 4 picks.

Gold Coast currently have pick 7 and need points, points and more points.

Picks 15 & 26 are worth 1841 points and pick 7 is worth 1644.

Without a doubt we know this and it is highly likely we will have 2 top 10 picks in this draft, assuming Freo and GC both miss the 8.

So then the question is who would we likely take at picks 7 and 8.... which will be pushed out by the GC academy guys.

Think we will have to pay a lot more to get Suns top 10 pick. We wonโ€™t be the only ones chasing it. Pick 33 might be enough to get the above deal done and if the Suns end up with a higher draft pick then we may need to use future picks.ย
We could also spilt picks with other clubs and increase our over points value before dealing with the Suns.ย

Shouldnโ€™t we be trading up for Jed Walker?

He's tied to the Suns via their academy and they will match any bid for him.ย

Their list is going to be epic. No wonder Hardwick wants to coach them.

They have 3 academy players currently rated in the top 10 of this years draft by ESPN. Itโ€™s starting to be a very compromised draft. Four academy players( 3 suns and 1 swan), 2 farther/son currently rated in the top 20 and two highly rated boys from Tassie.ย

The fact itโ€™s so compromised again means weโ€™d be better off trading up to pick 1 for a bonafide star than getting in a few less than stellar talents IMO.ย

Maybe, probably depend what pick we get from Freo and how many bolters there are over the next few months. I thought Duursma was our man but the two games Iโ€™ve seen of him lately he hasnโ€™t been amazing. But he could be gettable around Freoโ€™s pick now.ย
ย

On the other hand if you put Reid in along side Trac, Clarry and Viney it would be a sight to beholdย

Plus a possible top 20 or close to for Mc Cabe (Hawks) and Croft (Bullies).

Kynan Brown works hard and gets in the best players on a regular basis. Like most players coming through probably needs 2 or 3 of AFL pre seasons to build his game and body to cope with AFL.

Positives for Kynan are he knows how to find the ball on a regular basis, works hard and is prettyย

well fearless. So plenty to work with. He will be picked up late in the draft IMO.

ย

With the 20% discount for Academy players the GC will save a heap on points required.

For example if Walter is nominated at pick 2 that is worth 2527 points. GC match and pick him up for 2014 points.

If Read (Jackson comparison) gets bid at say pick 5 1878 points. GC will match at 1502 points.ย

Say Rogersย  (mid) gets a bid at pick 10ย  1395 points. GC matches at 1116 points. Savings = 279 ponts.

TOTAL savings = 1168 points = circa pick 14.

Not a bad deal to get 3 top 10 ranked picks plus a huge points savings on top. This will vary depending on where bids fall. If the GC make the finals they can only match 2 bids in round one.

Certainly worth the Dees having a shot at the GC first round pick. They have already banked a few and will probably want a deal involving future swap (our future 1st for their future 2nd) plus our 2023 second rounder/s (ours and maybe Freos). Just a guess.

Then we will package our picks in a bid to go higher at the pointy end.

2024 sees CAP relief with Tommo, TMc and BB possibly all finishing up so we can bid for a free agent instead of having a first round pick. If we a deal this year with GC we may end up with their 2nd rounder next year along with ours.

1st qtr. Vic country v Allies.
VCย

Zane Duursma already impressed in first qtr. ย Beautiful goal showed his class.ย

De Mattia good in close with contested footy.ย
ย

Joel Freijah on the wing showing good skills and ball winningย

Alliesย

Jake Rogers small but powerful onballer is impressive againย

Ryley Sanders class and pace on showย

Caiden Cleary very good onballer winning lots of the footyย

Dees young academy (South Alice Springs) Orlando Turner is a forward pocket player and kicked a nice goal from 35 metres out albeit after a dubious free kick ย

Lots of Swans, Giants, Lions Ana Suns Academy youngsters in showย

Harley Reid strangely again being played at full forwardย

Jed Walter always looks dangerous with height, strength and pace at full forward. Suns can get rid of Ben King and bring this kid in.ย

2nd qtrย

Alliesย

Ethan Reid ruck big strong and athletic (GC suns)ย

Coby Mckercher another Tassie mid good af the contest and smart ball userย

VCย

George Stevens mid utility solid strong can play fwd/mid/backย

Darcy Wilson nice tackle and goal but relatively quietย

Will Dawson full back cutting off numerous attacks with intercept marksย

ย

3rd quarterย

VCย

Harley Reid much better in midfield rotation (wasted up forward) burst of pace and intensity shows his top 3 rankingย

Finn Oโ€™Sullivan mid/half fwd/half back ย good skills, good aerial overhead and decision makingย

Archer Reid 203cm young tall forward/ruck - nice work rate and kicked a good snap goalย

Kade De La Rue strong running mid sized half back and skillsย

Alliesย

Coby Mckercher again showed his class with two beautiful goals on the run including one on a difficult angleย

Will Graham tall 190cm utility mid can play half back good skills and tacklingย

Connor Oโ€™Sullivan big tall defender, good mark and smart useย

Caiden Cleary accumulator midfield type small in and under got the ball out to the runnersย

4thย

VCย

Darcy Wilson kicked nice running goal to show pace and skillsย

Michael Rudd versatile utility/fwd, good mark, Ollie Henry type

Allies

Harvey Thomas left foot small defender quarterback type using skillsย

Orlando Turner kicked the match winner , quiet all day but has burst of pace and looks like he knows where the goals are. Probably rookie pick at best. ย

The Allies will be the National Champions for the first time after beating Vic Country today.

Vic Metroโ€™s annihilation of WA wonโ€™t be enough to give them a chance of winning the competition even if they beat Vic Country in the final game next week.

Melbourne father/son hopeful Kynan Brown did no harm to his draft prospects.

โ€œMelbourne father-son prospectย Kynan Brown, the son of former Demon Nathan, was impressive with 26 disposals, six clearances and one goal in the midfield for Vic Metro.โ€

Watched 3/4 of the Vic country, Allies game. Small sample size but I wouldnโ€™t be giving 3 first round picks for Harley Reid. Played a forward for a bit but when he did go into the middle he didnโ€™t look as good as 3 of the Allies mids in Cleary, Mckercher and Sanders.ย
Cleary is tied to the Swans and the other two are from Tassie but if McKercher is on the board at our first pick Iโ€™d be surprised if we didnโ€™t grab him.ย

I missed the first quarter yesterday and Duursma scored his two goals by the time I tunes in. I kept a good eye on him and wasnโ€™t all that impressed. Doesnโ€™t like to run when the other team has the ball. Noticed a few times the ball was turned over when he was close by and just gave up on it when he could have impacted the play.ย
I liked the game Darcy Wilson played. Covers the ground well.ย

Bizarre to compare Ryley Sanders (aka The Colonel) to Tim Taranto. ย Heโ€™s nothing like Taranto. ย Sanders is the closest type to Will Ashcroft. ย He has pace. He has skill. ย He runs and runs. ย He is a smart user of the footy. ย Actually after the weekends match, Iโ€™d now switch and choose him over Duursma if the pick was today and both were available. ย Duursma is all class and more outside. ย He was superb in the first quarter yesterday then went missing for the rest of the day. Sanders was strong equally inside and outside, with a full 4 quarter effort and kicked two impressive running goals.ย

Whoโ€™s currently expected to go at pick 6? After academy bids etc are taken out.

I believe 1 of Duursma, Caddy, Mckercher, Sanders or Curtin will be available at pick 6. So no doubt JT and the footy department are working through the possibilitiesย

i reckon flagmantle are every chance of dropping down to 15th on the ladder, which would be pick 4

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwinโ€™s summer of love.ย Manyย issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
