Outstanding interview @Demonland.  Covered lots of ground, and I loved Maysie’s honesty and frankness.  Didn’t ‘sugar coat’ anything.

Sorry it took so long. Disaster struck during the interview. The bluetooth connection between my phone and my mixer disconnected a 1/3 of the way during the interview and would not reconnect. This has never happened before so the rest of the interview was conducted on loudspeak with the phone held up to my mic. The audio didn't sound great and it has taken me about 5 hours in post getting it to a point that I was happy with. I probably only lost about 10 or 15 seconds of audio but I think I did a good job of piecing it back together. On the plus side my cleaning up of the audio erased most of the traffic noises.

PS: Jake Lever was with Maysie in the car.

Thanks Andy. I loved this interview and really have only jumped on the podcasts this year despite being a DL contributor for many years.

Congratulations. Steven May, comes across as a decent bloke without pretensions and is articulate and engaging to boot. Well done!

Well that's not Disco really he is med to tall Backman. Leave the smalls to Judd and Salo and Bowser.

By also, I meant 'and another question'. The two aren't linked.

Wonderful interview. He spoke so openly and honest and didn't give us the usual media trained answers that we normally get from players.

Great interview thanks Andy.

Steve is a great interview subject as he steers away from those footy cliches and is so open and honest.

Would be amazing to get Gawny on the podcast at some stage. I am sure you've asked...

Yeah, I’m also curious in how long he sees himself playing for. His current contract expires at the end of 2025 (33 y/o), but I could easily see grumpy old man May playing a little longer than that. Hopefully that’s how he sees it too. I feel like it’s a question he’d be happy to answer honestly.

Great interview, Andy!

May definitely didn’t fill me with much confidence that he’d be playing past 2025 but anything can happen I suppose.

The 2021 hamstring story was incredible to listen to. What a beast.

Andy, thanks for providing such outstanding content. Interviews such as this are simply not available in the commercial media.

Compliments on your excellent interviewing technique; conversant with the subject matter, well-prepared with a diverse range of engaging questions and your subject at ease.

Great insights in Maysie and the MFC. Superb work.

What he said. Thanks again. No issues at all with the audio. Appreciate the effort solving it and putting it together.

Interesting to hear the clear separation  in roles and functions with Ric.

Have to have a closer look at Deakyn Smith after him pumping him up so much. Must admit I have had my doubts that he would make it.

What a great interview.  Very professional and reminded me somewhat of those we used to hear on SEN years back pre-Hutchy but no longer.

How he came to choose the mighty Demons over the old enemy, the lead up to the GF & the post flag euphoria was very interesting.

Defenders needing to watch out for JVR's corkies haha!

Big thanks to Andy and the Demonland crew who helped put this together.

Just finished listening to the interview. Terrific job Andy.

Genuinely interesting from a footy perspective, with lots to unpack.

And some laugh out loud bits (eg not being paid to develop young defenders) - he is a funny bugger, and a natural story teller.

The Steven May book would be an interesting read. Reckon he would have a yarn or two to share.

Great interview guys. Top knotch. Love hearing from the club and explayers/staff. Keep up the great quality work.

Terrific work, Andy.

Maysie is very well spoken but also not afraid of the truth.

Really enjoyed that interview @Demonland - refreshingly honest fella Maysie, genuinely feel like he means everything he says. Particularly enjoyed hearing about how they lead/instruct in the backline, didn’t realise that was the approach, it appears much more chaotic to the naked eye.

True TJF I thought that they were yelling at each other, they are actually coaching on the run keeping the backline team informed on what is happening out there.👍

Great podcast @Demonland. Some very honest and interesting answers from Mr May too.

Great interview.
Does not sound like he will play beyond 2024. We need to start planning for life after May as we will still have a very good list.

He’s going to bail with 1 year left on his contract?

No. I said beyond 2024. He’s contracted to the end of next season. So he still has another season.

Jaded May is contracted until the end of 2025.!!

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
