Would not get carried away with a win against a completely undermanned side but you can only play against what is there, so,

I still stand by my statement that Viney has no football IQ and the first half showed that but in the second half he did what he did back in late 21 and through out the finals series see ball get ball and pass it off no thinking plays a lot better and does hurt sides when he does this.

Brayshaw, not sure what is going on there, seems to be either not happy he's playing H/B or confidence is down seems to be second guessing what he wants to do with the ball.

McVee, getting better and better, Salam might spend some time at Casey if he keeps improving ( adds that Hunt speed ).

Tmac, not much competition against him and the ground suited him, still backup for me.

Chandler, well here is a surprise on how he has come on, makes good decisions always thinking of the next move, good goal sense.

Kossie, I am one who believes his best position is in the Forward line, not sure he can handle the heat in the middle on a regular basis.

JVR love the fact that he crashes the packs hard chases at full pace, but needs work on his marking, he need to keep his hands forward not bent backwards in trying to mark it causes to lack of strength in the hands, but still like him there.

Petty, bit at sea but the way they brought the ball in no wonder, when all your forwards fly at once you don't have much hope, the forward line still needs a lot of work, cannot fathom why when the ball is around the H/F line everyone stands still move for heavens sake open it up, learn to make holes, take your opponent out of the area.  Is it worth persevering only if they change the set up.

Grundy, played against well not their best, but the best part of it for me, he got great game time and fitness time will only get better.

If Hibbo is injured, and after watching Casey Disco would have to come in and would be a good replacement.

One thing I was happy about there was several times that 2-3 players held back on the backline so when the eagles the ball chipped around in the backline, players were there, not to give them a chance to move it on quickly.

I would love to see a change in set up in the forward line, instead of all lining up like ducks in a row take the H/F's further out, same with pockets creates a hole, can give you multiple aiming points, radical I know but we don't have a real power marking forwards.

The second half the Eagles stated to run out of steam and class but like some of there young ones.

Sticking up for Viney here.  He is playing the game at the highest level, he must have some level of footy IQ.    He showed heart and grunt in his early years when many of those around him didn't.  He is a premiership hero.  He has his own thread about making people cry.  A little respect please.

Was Jack Watts ever NOT called "Number 1 Draft Pick"? - even when he was at Port Adelaide they reeled that one out. I guess that's partially on him because he never did anything to make a name for himself apart from be a high pick.

Point well made Chook. They are a rabble aren't they.

Thats strange i had a look and i couldnt see your remarks anywhere? Perhaps i missed them....do you have a link?

If you can bring up the thread for me I should be able to find them. Also the draft thread of 2019 where he was our last pick. I am pretty computer useless and I just can’t find the threads.

Note: "Goal Line", not "back of the padding".

According to the rules, it's a goal. This "back of the padding" thing is a furphy.

Note that the back of the padding lines up precisely with the back of the goal line… it was NOT a goal.

I never heard anyone referred to or maligned as a number 1 pick as much as Jack Watts.

He was our choice, we picked him.  And then he arrived at a dysfunctional club where development was poor.  We paraded him around like he was a prized colt at the Magic Millions.  What were we thinking?

Fast forward to the now and we develop our prospects properly and Jason Taylor had got the midas touch

And we don't need Taylor being poached (we poached him from the Pies)

In terms of best recruiters, his record is right up there with the best if not the best

As for our depth, I honestly never thought we could do as well as we're doing.  We are leading the way in terms of list building

Just imagine if we continue to list build properly for the next 10 years?  No more bottoming out or rebuilding from scratch

Finals and top 4 ongoing every season

There is footy IQ and there footy IQ so answer this, is he on the same level in that department of players, Judd, Cousins, Pendlebury, Martin, hell can go back to Greg Williams etc, no, his strength is see ball get ball and pass it on, simple football, when he tries to to do anything else it comes undone, I will take his strength of his ability to fit the sides need, what he did in late 21 and the second half was do what Oliver used to do get ball and dish it off now that Oliver works a lot outside now, he does not need to be the one to do that, again stick to your strength not your weakness.

The score reviewers have only one decision to make (unlike the umps for whom I feel pity despite my swearing at them). You'd think they'd know the rules that affect their one simple job. Apparently not. (I wouldn't expect the commentators to know much at all.)

Unlike many here, it would seem that they are at least aware that the back of the padding lines up with the back of the goal line. It was not a goal.

We get it. You don’t like Viney

Give it a rest.

Yesterday he was In everything, working his backside off, it’s a shame you couldn’t see it

Just read a match review that deadset described Lever as a “high profile recruit”. He’s in his sixth season at the club ffs. Twice as long as he was at the fruit tingles.

its akin to referring to “ex-Bomber” Michael Hibberd or “Number 2 draft pick” Christian Petracca.

Gotta bump up that word count 🤣

$850

I once missed out on $700 because Sam Blease kicked a goal from the boundary in the dying seconds against the Pies in Queens Birthday which meant we covered the 40 odd point line. So we got done by 7 goals and I was out of pocket $700. I never forgave Blease for that 🤣

you must have been apoplectic yesterday. Did your TV Remote survive?

I was mindful of the children watching with me so I handled it quite well.  Would have been a nice little injection for the black ops account (the one that isn't shared with the wife), but not to worry.

Ouch.  Because being an MFC supporter in those days wasn't already hard enough.

Gee what a game and team we follow.

We are a fickle bunch.

Well at least I am.

Thoughts of catastrophe and emotions of doom and gloom during and following the Lion's game.

When Max went down and the cameras revealed how dejected he was in that room by himself, I felt the same way.

I thought our season was done and dusted.

But thank goodness for Grundy who has done a fine job since. I'm sure Jackson couldn't have stepped up like him.

And Max will be back very soon. Add to this beating last years runners up and winning over in Perth.....both by over 50 points and we look like premiers again.

Tmac showed glimpses of his 21 form. Bbb will be back and Kozzie could have kicked 6. Our backline is better than ever even without Salo ...tx JV and the other JV our interim captain proved to us why he is.

A win against the Don's may have us on top of the ladder depending on other results and I feel confident again.

Thanks Mfcss but you can go away for now.

I had a close look at several stills from this and othe games and if that is the AFL'S intention, they need to be more careful with the placement of the padding and line drawing.  Clearly saw examples of the padding being further back.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
