God how awful. Life is so cruel.

Can someone do me a favor and explain why the fixture has saints and Pies in Adelaide?  We are lampooned for not having enough supporters to ascertain prime venues and times but they schedule this event.

Here is some context.

I really thought that Gold Coast were nothing short of pathetic last night. Not sure how much more we have to put up with these uncompetitive performances but if they say they want to play finals then these are the games you have to win. You can't just gee yourself up for a big one last week and then relax. It's been going on long enough and it's almost curtains in 2023 already for them.

Their standard made-to-measure season is unfolding in accordance with the GCS blueprint. Some slashing wins interspersed with terrible and/or pathetic losses. Unable to put together streaks of wins and end up capitulating in the back half of the season and giving up entirely.

Only difference is this year it looks like they will capitulate sooner.

Port were also robbed of a goal here

So the Swannettes have not a leg to stand on

I dunno how the umps can determine anything definitively from the My First Digital Camera™ they have strapped to the goal posts. But that's what saved Port's bacon, as it turns out they could not determine anything definitely, so it went back to umpire's call, which was "touched".

It's funny because the Swans lost, and it's funnier because Hinkley's tenure gets extended by a few more weeks. If they pull out another of these wins at just the right moment, "Kochie" will extend his contract.

SO MUCH TO UNPACK!

The funniest thing about Buddy going right into Bergman's back and falling over is that he cleared room for Alir Alir to come through for the punch.

For some reason the fans arm pumping up and down that blocks the camera view cos he thinks they are going to win also cracks me up 🤣

It’s the gift that keeps on giving. With every viewing you notice something new to relish. 🥳

Basically the AFL hate us. That explains nearly everything that goes on in the world of AFL.

Hope he's OK. Will miss our match up next week in Adelaide as well.

Jesus, it's a terrible way to lose a loved one.

If anything, Port were robbed of a goal that was bizarrely called touched ... Had that been called correctly, the outcome of the final kick would not have mattered.

Edit: Should have read the entire thread first, of course .. sorry SWYL et al.

So what happens if the umpire wants to pay the free? Does the kick not count? Or in an after-the-siren shot is it a free-for-all on the goal line?

Let's say Aliir had not punched, the ball went through and the umps decided to award a free for in the back. No score, free kick awarded, game over. The player can take the kick if they want.

I wonder how many umps would have had the nerve to pay the free.

Of course he's right - that is if the ball was kicked from the crowd it's over the line. "Blind Freddie" can see it never made the line. Yet again Channel 7 create muddy waters with bad shots of the goal square. And can someone keep that person seated in front of the camera. They did the same when Buddie kicked his goal last year.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
