WCW, can you advise why the banner is never turned both ways so people in the Southern stand can see the message.

We’d love to be able to do this (a “showing”) every week but for various reasons we can’t. Sometimes it’s because we haven’t enough time. We follow a strict timeline out in the middle; every single minute is accounted for. This is usually the reason at away games.

The elements also dictate whether we can do a showing. If it’s raining or windy it’s a no-go. (Say what you want about Marvel, but it’s banner crew’s best friend 😁).

We did one on Friday night. This is only the second time we’ve been able to do it this season. Two in 12 rounds is about what’s to be expected given the above reasons.

Realised there’s been 12 rounds, not 11. My how time flies!

I remember in the good-old, bad-old days we had Melbourne - Masters of the MCG and Melbourne Greatest Ever Exponents of Perfection Football displayed across the northern and southern stands in perpetuity. There was a third one l have forgotten.

A friend of mine who is now on the committee of Coterie was in the cheer squad in the 60s and 70s, he said he has one of those large banners at his house, and he said it went half way around the old southern stand.  I'd love to see it!

I recall the first one BD.

The second.... see below

Don't recall the third.

I remember a very long one that always amazed me how they could make a banner with that many words but didnt recall the words.  I suspect the one you are referring to is the second mentioned by BD here.

I always recall at Richmond home games they would have their own running.  The one i recall was at the Punt Road end.  Can't recall if it was along the boundary or along the edge of the 1st tier.

After checking with my older bro, Crusty Demon who's been following since about 65, he stated the following...

..."Masters of the MCG was a famous one I remember very well.  It was always placed on the boundary fence on the northern wing in the early 70s.

I don't remember the other one though.

I do remember a cheer squad banner at Vic Park in the mid seventies that actually said   '[censored] on Crappy Collingwog'   😂 True!  "  .....

Was involved in those as well. Try lugging a very wet 50my long banner home on the train.

That was Jake’s 214th game in total, his 100th as a Demon.

We don’t acknowledge a player’s Melbourne-only games tally. We acknowledge their total AFL games, which we did for his 200th last year.

Besides, we’d never forget a milestone. 🙂

All good. đŸ˜ŽđŸ‘đŸ»

I greatly appreciate the explanation.

I wasn't familiar with the process of acknowledging milestone games.

Yes it is a great pic. But I prefer Demonland’s photo of the week, and not just because I’m in it, except totally coz I’m in it. 😁

You can’t see me but I’m holding up the #41 jumper pic. I thought I was holding it up showing the other side which is #37, but it’s not upside-down so for me it’s a win. I don’t do giant heads anymore because it’s not a good look for them to be upside-down. đŸ€

Who are the most sought for players when it comes to holding their Giant heads?

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
