WCW, can you advise why the banner is never turned both ways so people in the Southern stand can see the message.

We’d love to be able to do this (a “showing”) every week but for various reasons we can’t. Sometimes it’s because we haven’t enough time. We follow a strict timeline out in the middle; every single minute is accounted for. This is usually the reason at away games.

The elements also dictate whether we can do a showing. If it’s raining or windy it’s a no-go. (Say what you want about Marvel, but it’s banner crew’s best friend 😁).

We did one on Friday night. This is only the second time we’ve been able to do it this season. Two in 12 rounds is about what’s to be expected given the above reasons.

Realised there’s been 12 rounds, not 11. My how time flies!

I remember in the good-old, bad-old days we had Melbourne - Masters of the MCG and Melbourne Greatest Ever Exponents of Perfection Football displayed across the northern and southern stands in perpetuity. There was a third one l have forgotten.

A friend of mine who is now on the committee of Coterie was in the cheer squad in the 60s and 70s, he said he has one of those large banners at his house, and he said it went half way around the old southern stand.  I'd love to see it!

I recall the first one BD.

The second.... see below

Don't recall the third.

I remember a very long one that always amazed me how they could make a banner with that many words but didnt recall the words.  I suspect the one you are referring to is the second mentioned by BD here.

I always recall at Richmond home games they would have their own running.  The one i recall was at the Punt Road end.  Can't recall if it was along the boundary or along the edge of the 1st tier.

After checking with my older bro, Crusty Demon who's been following since about 65, he stated the following...

..."Masters of the MCG was a famous one I remember very well.  It was always placed on the boundary fence on the northern wing in the early 70s.

I don't remember the other one though.

I do remember a cheer squad banner at Vic Park in the mid seventies that actually said   '[censored] on Crappy Collingwog'   😂 True!  "  .....

Was involved in those as well. Try lugging a very wet 50my long banner home on the train.

Jake Melksham 100+1 MFC games this week on the banner?

Apparently it was his 100th game against St. Kilda.

But we all forgot! 😔

That was Jake’s 214th game in total, his 100th as a Demon.

We don’t acknowledge a player’s Melbourne-only games tally. We acknowledge their total AFL games, which we did for his 200th last year.

Besides, we’d never forget a milestone. 🙂

All good. 😎👍🏻

I greatly appreciate the explanation.

I wasn't familiar with the process of acknowledging milestone games.

Yes it is a great pic. But I prefer Demonland’s photo of the week, and not just because I’m in it, except totally coz I’m in it. 😁

You can’t see me but I’m holding up the #41 jumper pic. I thought I was holding it up showing the other side which is #37, but it’s not upside-down so for me it’s a win. I don’t do giant heads anymore because it’s not a good look for them to be upside-down. 🤭

Who are the most sought for players when it comes to holding their Giant heads?

THE HEAT IS ON by Meggs

FNQ will be hot and sultry this Thursday night when the mighty Demons take on the highflying Hawks at up there Cazalys Stadium in Cairns.   The Demons once again rebrand for Indigenous Round as ‘Narrm’, the Woi Wurrung name for Melbourne in the language of the traditional owners.   Narrm has surged back up the ladder and sits just outside the eight on percentage with 5 wins. Our opponents Hawthorn sit second with 8 wins and have been become really offensive.

    AWESOME FOURSOME by Meggs

The rejuvenated Demons out tussled the Tigers by 13 points to make it four wins on the trot on Saturday which means that the slight possibility of a finals appearance remains alive in 2024. This is despite the AFLW handicapping the Demons against their peers yet again (more later). Lots to celebrate as it was Kids Day at Casey Fields and both teams ran onto the ground modelling their Pride jumpers.   Kate Hore won the toss and kicked to the Clyde end. Part 3: Happier Days by Whispering Jack It would be fair to say that when the Melbourne Football Club entered the free agency and trade period earlier this month, its reputation was flagging, if not in tatters. The club was taking a battering in the media and social media over a number of issues, some real and others imaginary and even fabricated, relating to the running of the club, team performance and its culture, a build up that’s been taking place for more than twelve months.
