After the retirement of the Tigers Darren Gaspar today, it got me thinking how many years our champion David Neitz has left in the game. When the time comes he will be surely missed, so sit back and enjoy every game he plays.

Barring any major injury myguess would be that next year will be his last.

Edit: When does his current contract run out?

Yeah, I'm thinking next year at the end.

The best demon over the journey in the last 15 years I reckon. He was the one I watched from when I was 13 or 14 onwards, and my heart swells with pride when his name is mentioned like no other. When the day finally comes, I plan to write a beefy post. And those of you that know me know that that's saying something!

Occo... What do you think?

;)

I think a lot will depend on how he plays out this season... should ( god forbid ) he be struck down again...thensomeone has to start asking some very tough questions !! thats just a reality, no sleight intended !!

Neita has 1-3 seasons left in him. I would take a punt on this year and next, beyond that seems unlikely.

Posted

Hopefully another 12 seasons. We can pack our bags and join the PNGAFL if he retires any time soon and without a proper replacement. We've got to do all within our power to keep him on the list.

I dont even want to comprehend Neitz retiring

We would officially be the softest team ever assembled on a footy field

What a crock.

McLean, Sylvia, Bell, Jones, Petterd, Pickett, Moloney, Carroll, Godfrey, Miller, Rivers, Whelan.

These are just the ones that I can think of right now and none of them you could accuse as being soft.

He has long said that he wants to have one year of not being the captain so he doesn't have to deal with the pressure before he retires. So i'd expect next year to be his last and the captaincy will be handed over to Brock McLean and Neitz can be a sort of mentor to Chooka.

There is no doubt in my mind that he's the greatest Melbourne player i've seen in the time i've been following the Dees (13 years), and it will be a teary day for me in his last game.

Sorry, but Neitz holds this team together. he is the heart and soul

he has been for years

When he is missing, we turn to water

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
