@Gorgoroth, come now. This is not your first rodeo.

I am a bit disillusioned with no-one really wanting to join us.

Why ? You can take a view that come to MFC and you’ll be playing sometime in the VFL… I wouldn’t want that either.

Doesn't help seeing premiership players like JJ and Harmes leaving either.

Think it’s more when cats and tigers and hawks needed big name players in there window they got them. Tigers and cat needed another key fwd got Lynch and Cameron, cats needed a mid got danger, hawks needed key backs got Lake and Frawley.  Why are we unable to get a king or larkey like they would, even swans tried and failed for naughton. where it the story of us making a 10 year 12 mill offer for someone

My sources tell me that we have struck a deal with Carlton. We are getting McKay and Curnow in exchange for pick 46 and Bailey Laurie.

Is that better?

Or like when Lever picked us over Collingwood and May picked us over Collingwood and Hawthorn

Well yes... but small beer really, compared with those jumping ship to other large clubs in contention.

The only player going to a “large club in contention” I’d want is Schultz.

Who even are the others? Taylor Adams? Ratugolea?

You misread his post. He's referring to clubs that had already won a flag in their window and acquired a big fish.

Why are we giving such a high pick, can't we get Walsh thrown in?

It is very possible we finalise McAdam and Fullarton for later picks and do nothing else this trade period.

I suspect we won't know about any pick upgrade swaps for a while, as there is no need for WC or North to swap now, as it can be done as late as on draft night, just before the pick being chased is used.

If that's the case, why do the pick 14 to 11 upgrade? Even if we don't intend on using the 2nd round picks we threw in, we could have traded them for future picks?

Because other teams were chasing it i.e. Crows and North

Gee, so many reasons that I hate Cats, another example above. Port offering overs. Apart from some good games this year as a defender, Ratugolea been very mediocre IMO, given taken with pick 43 in 2016 think pick 24 is good return for someone wanting out.

Because we feel that we need 11 for future use and some club like Adelaide, wanted it too.

Both those clubs acquired 1st round picks subsequently via trades. North need picks in order to get Pick 1. And Adelaide now have 3 picks in the top 20, which dare I say it, may be used to acquire Petty.

I'm just curious to know what our intentions are for pick 11. Why is it so important to move up 3 places in the draft?

Yeah but they would've gone for pick 11 if our offer wasn't the best.

I don’t think I did, Cats hadn’t won a flag when they picked up Danger or Cameron, nor had Hawks (08 defensive group had dropped off) when Lake went there. Both sides were in contention when those players wanted to move there

Sure Ed Curnow has great running endurance but let the man retire in peace! How would you use a veterinarian at the Demons though? I am sure Andrew McKay would take good care of any club affiliated pooches 🐶

PS - may need pick 41 instead of 46 to get this trade over the line 😁

Frawley joined the Hawks after they won a flag. Danger joined the Cats when they still had the core of their 2011 Premiership team. Cameron joined the Cats after they lost the 2020 G/F.

His point stands. They acquired big names whilst in their premiership window.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
