I think there is obviously some issues and the club wete trying to give Oliver a kick up the [censored] a bit.  Then the media got wind of it and it got out of hand a bit.

Very glad to here he is staying.  26yo midfielders like him don't come along often.

Tell your mate to tell her cousin that Adelaide sucks 😂

We are still trying for big forwards and I understand we are still sniffing around McKay.

Any other alternatives we might be looking at?

Yep. i was in panic mode over speculation he would be traded.

Everyone has personal downers from time ti time and work through it. He will be just fine.

Because we're getting rid of Grundy tells me we're not going to bring in a player with similar attributes, if that makes sense.

Not really. Chol is a forward/ruck. Grundy is a ruck/forward.

We arguably have a list need for a forward/ruck. Or we target a ruck to back up Max and play in the 2s for most of the year, except to give Max a chop out.

Perhaps we are not interested in spending money and picks on good ordinary footballers and have better targets in mind. Be it this year or next.

We may just look at someone like Smith or JVR playing second ruck.

JVR was quite good as second ruck IMO, especially given he had limited training in the role. With more training during pre season under Gawn he could get better.

It’s more what happens if Gawn is injured for me. I would look at a mature age recruit who can just bash and crash as needed. A warm body if you will to smash a knee into Cox when required.

I think he faded quite noticeably in this role in the late part of the year, but if he and we know that's the plan next year, then that's what he trains for this pre season.

I think it’s to be expected from a kid in his first full year of senior footy. It’s a very demanding role even for mature bodies.

And a midfielder with elite disposal by foot. Pretty please?

So it was about their abilities? Grundy is a two time AA. He definitely has elite ability in his position. Chol has shown glimpses but not consistently.

Anyway, each to their own.

I’ve only heard about McKay as a specific target. The leadership group was consulted and were a part of a pitch I believe.
Other than that, a KF was a priority but no names.

Any sense of how it has been received by McKay and Carlton?

As intriguing as it sounds it seems like a bit of a Hail Mary from the outside looking in!

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
