AFLW: Rd 07 vs Western Bulldogs

Great kick Zanker after the siren.

Dees by 26 points at halftime. Doggies very limited. Can't see anything other than a Dees win here

Goldy giving away the freekicks is a momentum killer

Yeah, a couple but she makes the game worth watching.

Created a bit the other way as well.

Love Goldy...just takes it on.

Ordinary first quarter but the second was better. Purcell and West came into the game more in second and we improved because of that. Hanks has been fantastic all day. Hope that Paxman and Pearce will be okay.

Looks like Mackin has the same attitude as well. They won't die wondering

Mithen seems to be having her best year yet. Always loved her work rate but much cleaner with the ball

Brisbane play Adelaide next week. This game isn’t over yet a but top 2 spot can be ours if we are good enough

First quarter we were nearly there, in the second our pressure broke them. Dogs have had very little space, and the game has been played in our forward half.

The backline, repelling most of their attacks and intercepting everything.

Paxman, Taylor, Hanks, West, Purcell, Hore, Chaplin, Goldy, the main contributors. Daisy doing the important little things.

Mithin in the midfield has been holding Blackman with the help of West.

WCW was on the telly in one of the spectator shots.

I was hoping Mackins kick would go all the way. It was a fair roost

Happy game 50 Kate Hore Not sure she meant it

This game is over but we need to keep our foot on the gas and try to pick up some percentage

Are the Dogs depleted with injury  or is there just a massive gulf in talent between the two clubs?

There' a gulf between Crows, Lions, Dees and the rest. North competitive but can't score.

this is the worst doggies team i've seen play in the ALFW since inception. Lost some players to expansion teams i think. not sure about injuries today

Good to see that the 26 point zone of indecision has not affected the women's team.

Percentage is all important in this competition... need to score a few more and not let them goal

How can anyone not love Goldie?

Bannan finding form. She's an important player for us

Keep the foot on their throat girls

O Doggies......how did you not goal

Loved the big smile on the Bulldogs player when she pulled down the packmark

A decent crowd by the look of things

This is the best footy I’ve ever seen us play. In fact, this is the best AFLW performance of any team I’ve ever seen. The marking inside 50 and precision kicking around the ground is so good. Some of the switch kicks into the middle have been sublime. Just need to improve the goal kicking

It’s Game Day and the Demons have made the long trip west to take on Fremantle tonight at Optus Stadium. Can Melbourne make it two from two to start the season, and what are you hoping to see from the Dees under the lights in Perth?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Saturday Night’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.

  • NON-MFC: Round 02

The compromised AFL fixture will get another test this week with the first lot of teams getting a bye after only two matches. Despite this Round 2 starts off with two cracking games as the Hawks host the Swans at the G on Thursday Night and then on Friday Night the Crows host the Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
