Injuries

If you want excuses for our injuries look at our new fitness coach. A caller on SEN mentioned last year he had a trail of soft tissue injuries following him. Ask a few Hawthorn supporters close to the club what they think and they will say we didn't do our homework and they might say some of their players were unimpressed. Why have we bulked up in 2006 only to slim down looking for more speed in 2007. Seems strange when we said we were too light in 2005. Ok some injuries are not soft tissue and that is just bad luck. Maybe it all comes down to conditioning though.

I have to admit I really know very little about the subject, but you have to concede it is odd that the year we appoint this bloke we instantly have the worst run of injury I have ever seen at the club

Thats still on the high side...

Moloney, Brown and Whelan have a history with these sorts of injuries. Don't really think we can blame the fitness guy for that.

The reason we have so many injuries is simple, we've had a truckload of bad luck delivered to the club at Round 1. That's it.

Every club has years where they are decimated by injuries. Look at Brisbane last year.

It's unfortunate that this, a year where we planned on making a real challenge, is also the year we've been dealt a huge injury blow.

Supposedly green (hamstring) and sylvia (knee) have niggles as well and could miss

I wonder what the next Sylvia injury-excuse will be.

Knee? Please. The guy can't play two consecutive games because of his groin. It's so incredibly depressing! :(

This is getting really tiring. THe number of threads on BB and the spate of injuries is ridiculous and all are completely unfounded.

The injury list is full of collision sort of injuries. If you want to see a lot of soft tissue injuries then look at st kilda.

We have more broken bones than i can remember. Another is a corked calf (brown - nothing to do with the fitness regime), and another 2 are reoccuring injuries (moloney and sylvia). whelan wouldn't even have played on the weekend had we had more than 10 fit people on the list to choose from. So therefore there are 3 soft tissue injuries with no cause that could potentially be attributed to conditioning, this is not a high number at all.

On another note what is this about green? why haven't we heard this already?

Agree Classy Dee.....and Browns injury is probably a corkie....another collision injury.

It is also amazing how TJ is now supposed to have a hamstring problem, right after he had x-rays for a broken hand.

Whelan is another that I would question as he left the field after bumping Sandilands and came off second best.

Opposition players can't target a hamstring but they can "test out" a shoulder or hand if they know about it.....

If that's true, then we are royally screwed. Out of our 10/11 most important players, that's the following out;

Neitz

Robertson

Mclean

Johnstone

Rivers

Green

Whelan

With only these remaining, and not exactly in super form.

White

Bruce

Davey

Carroll

It's no wonder we're winless. Take 7 of any teams 10/11 most important players out and they would be winless too. Even West Coast.

To add further misery check out this in The Australian today not only are Green (Hammy) and Sylvia (knee) in doubt Gardner will not take these losses into account when assessing Daniher's future. At least Neale will be comforted by that.

2024 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence. Lack of preparation after a problematic preseason prevented Oliver from reaching the high standards set before last year’s hamstring woes. BLOODY BLUES by Meggs

The conclusion to Narrm’s home and away season was the inevitable let down by the bloody Blues  who meekly capitulated to the Bombers.   The 2024 season fixture handicapped the Demons chances from the get-go with Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon advantaged with enough gimme games to ensure a tough road to the finals, especially after a slew of early season injuries to star players cost wins and percentage.     As we strode confidently through the gates of Prin
