Hard to have confidence given we’re 0-5 against the top 4 sides.

After week 1 finals last year we were 1-0 against Port, 2-0 against Geelong and 2-0 against Brisbane. They were the other top 4 sides of the 2021 season.

Much like our atrocious MCG record against Sydney, short and long term history is against us.

It’s looking like we’re a 4th-6th side this year.

In all fairness two of those matches (Sydney and the second against Collingwood) we lost the game more than they beat us.

I still think our best is the best, however we seem to struggle to have consistent performance week after week and even during a match. Even last night, I wonder if that soft [censored] and 50 m in the first was the pivotal point when we killed our momentum.... Who knows if that didn't happen, it looked like we were bringing the game in to our terms ...

Really? I would have thought a true supporter would have loved to be proven wrong?

Talking about our chances and being a supporter are two completely different things.

Were talking about our chances I'd have thought. And in the 2022 season we haven't stood up against the best.

I think our best being the best isn't the case anymore and something people are just saying for the hell of it. Geelong's best this year can't be topped.

I reckon Sydney will give them headaches. Assuming Geelong gets over the Pies today.

Elephant in the room...

We're still a small club that can't consistently perform in big games in the big smoke.

We won it last year, a fantastic achievement, on the road in front of a handful of local supporters and rent-a-crowds. Sorry but it's true.

Twice against Collingwood, Twice against Sydney, Geelong, and almost Carlton... every single time we've played "the big boys" in Melbourne in battles between contenders this year we have been comprehensively beaten in the contest with pressure.

It's great if you're a good travelling team during the season but in finals it's irrelevant when all your games are at the MCG in front of 80k+...

I don't want to understate the significance of last year's flag at all, but this year is legitimate "big boys" finals on the big stage and we've really buckled on almost every occasion.

There was a shot of a Swans supporter doing the choking motion last night and it's pretty accurate.

As soon as things returned to normal and perennial contenders Sydney, Collingwood, Geelong come back onto the scene, we've been deers in headlights. We're so close yet so far.

To lose against Collingwood and Sydney TWICE on the MCG in the fashion we have is an indictment on the season in my view. Taking nothing away from those teams at all but we have been way off it on the REAL big stage this season.

We turned it up on the other side of the country when most of us were locked up at home and couldn't even celebrate, away from the stress and scrutiny of Melbourne. Now the big boys are out to play and we're still a league below.

Last night was just so typically Melbourne in outcome. I know I'm being harsh but it's been an obvious trend this year.

It's not though. We have to beat two top 4 teams to win a flag and we're 0-5 against the top 4 this season. Four of which have been at the MCG in high pressure, high interest contests.

Our performance at the MCG is embarrassing for the club. This is our home and we've choked there on every big stage this season.

Woopdidoo we're a good travelling team! Guess what? We don't travel for the rest of the year lol

I find it comical that of all supporter bases are the Swans the ones to say we are chokers. They are up there with Geelong as the most wasteful in the last decade with all their finals runs.

I couldn't care less what other supporters think about us, all I want for our club is sustained success and its rightful place in the AFL's elite (granted it is long lost but we have the opportunity to reclaim it).

Get over the Lions and get yourself to a PF and if that forward line can click and get good connection suddenly you are in a GF and we can beat anybody.

It is so open this year that we should still have expectations on ourselves to perform in a PF.

As a fan of this great collection of players that is all I ask; get yourself into a position to get to a PF and give it a red hot crack.

I hate it when I'm right.

I don't think the boys can't win it, I just think we're not good enough this year compared to the best.

Defence isn't king in 2022

Yet again you're not a prophet, you're playing the odds. 17 out of the 18 teams aren't going to win it.

You're not all knowing.

If we do win it I wonder if you'll be back "Oh looks like I was wrong". Doubt it.

No doubt.

I'm not talking about effort or support, I'm comparing us to our competition and they are all significantly better offensively.

Nothing to be ashamed of. I just don't think we have enough time to fix it this year. Our defence won't save us, and last night was further proof.

Not saying we can't get there on our day, just I don't see it happening for us on current form.

Our scrappy forward line can get us there but they need to lift their pressure and the whole team needs to execute skills better on transition. We aren’t doing that. It’s not cattle, it’s the cattle not doing what they did do last year under pressure.

Let just a enjoy the ride.

What ever happens it’s a hella of a lot better than what we have previously experienced before the PREMIERSHIP.

And that’s the ‘cheerio, near enough is good enough’ attitude that’s seen the MFC float in a sea of mediocrity and ineptitude for the majority of the past six decades. It’s a cancerous culture which placates the supporter base unlike any other supporter base in the AFL.

Mate you came in saying "I hate it when I'm right" as if you're some kind of prophet. Even with the odds favouring your grand proclamation the finals aren't over yet so in no way are you right....yet ;)

I still think we've got a good chance. When we click, we really bloody click.

No it is diatribe. We were red hot last year and beat the best in amazing circumstances. That wont be repeated.  We had a hard draw and finished 2nd.  A well coached team beat us in the 1st final. We are not embarrassing.  Whats embarassing is out supporters is expecting to be the ants pants week in and week out. Thats not how football or anything in  life works quite frankly.

What are you on about?

Who said anything about good enough is near enough. There was enough wrist slitting in the bad old days and it didn't get us anywhere

The club is well run and managed. The FD know what they are doing and have delivered a flag. We have champion players and can bounce back.

This thread. Seriously

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves.
