It's not really a grudge.... but yes I will be over it soon.

Yeh, agree. Headland is a moron. If he didn't want his daugter brought into it, he shouldn't have bashed Selwood. Then, he celebrates like they have just won the grand final and points at his tattoo. bringing more attention to it than ever. What a f*ckstick.

Did Headland bring Selwood into it, or did Selwood. For mine the reflex reaction of Headland to Selwood's sledge indicates that he interpreted Selwood's comments as being about his daughter. Certainly the umpire said that he heard Headland tell Sellwood that the tattoo was of his daughter in response to Sellwood's first sledge and Peter Bell also said that Headland said to him on the bench that Sellwood had referred to his daughter.

Then if moronic Melbourne fans are parking their brains and basic decency at the gate and abusing Headland for the entire match it is they who are bringing his daughter into the match. His response was perfectly understandable.

Not that i was booing, however, the boos were for headland being found guilty of striking and then having a 6 week ban being overturned. He should not have been playing

Basically the things that gets me about this Headland/Selwood issue is that Headland didn't take responsibility for his actions, instead taking the highroad and saying the it was Selwood's fault that he provoked him. He's an adult, and therefor must be held accountable for what he did. That's why i'm [censored] off with him. As i said though, i only started booing after he pointed to his tattoo.

Nowhere in society is provocation accepted as a defence except evidentally by the AFL. Brains and Decency in the form of fair punishment were put on hold by the AFL to achieve an amicable and expedient outcome in both the Selwood and Headland cases. How do we get the message to the AFL that this is as unaccpetable as some forms of sledging? Booing would be one way.

So it was Headland's fault that Sellwood made a remark that Headland interpreted as being a sexual reference to his daughter? He was held accountable for his actions. He went to the tribunal and told his version of the events, did you really expect him not too? As I said earlier the umpire corroborated that he heard Headland tell Sellwood that the tattoo was of his daughter and Peter Bell also said that Headland told him on the bench that Sellwood has made a remark about his daughter. If you have any grievance it is with the tribunal not Headland.

Headland should have been suspended but for a lesser number of games because of the provocation. Sellwood should have been subject to more intense scrutiny by the tribunal than he was.

Apropos.......

Kissing a tough week goodbye

By Scott Gullan

April 23, 2007

DES Headland has denied his emotional gesture during the final quarter of Fremantle's win over Melbourne yesterday was a

reaction to taunting from Demons fans.

The Dockers star was booed all day by the Melbourne faithful who were clearly angered he had been cleared by the AFL

tribunal to play yesterday despite being found guilty of striking West Coast's Adam Selwood.

After kicking his third goal of the afternoon at the 15-minute mark of the final quarter, Headland celebrated by blowing

a kiss to the crowd and then provocatively pointing to the tattoo of his six-year-old daughter, Madisan, which had been

at the centre of the week's sledging saga.........

This bloke is a deadset [censored]!

Yes he played well today, but why the hell would he celebrate a goal by pointing to the infamous tattoo of his daughter?!?!?!

This is just pure stupidity! He is insighting the crowd and making himself look like an absolute dick!

Someone will clean him up before the season is out.... And hopefully they do a good job of it...

It is bad enough that he got off his suspension due to allegations of provocation.... But to then come out the next game and make a big deal of it is just ridiculous!

Play footy moron! You are a good player but you will be remembered for your stupidity rather than your ability!

On mmm after the game he said his aunty passed away last week and he had the funeral on friday. He looked up tot the sky and blew the kisses for her and also he knew his daughter was watching so that's why he pointed to the arm.

What a neanderthal piece of logic that is.

Headland actions were crude and reckless. He should have been suspended.

The fault for the overturning of the ban was the AFL tribunal.

They should be getting the raspberries not the player.

BTW, this has to one of the most appalling threads on this site for a while quite free of any football substance and full of the bile that highlights the baseline thinking of the mug supporter.

Its disappointing throughout.

Some of the posters submitting here are better than participating in the juvenile sprays being littered around.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
