There is plenty about this performance that is on Sydney independently of Carlton.

Carlton are good, don't get me wrong, but Sydney are not in form, having lost two in a row before beating a sub-VFL side in Essendon.

That's Carltons doing mate - implied pressure, bull midfielders and first to the ball. A better team might combat it better, sure. 

For what it's worth Sydney are overrated - defensively been leaky for most of this year but it hasnt been acknowledged by the populace. But they're still generally a good team. Carlton are better. 

All that said Sydney lifting a little - don't think it will matter though

If you are not going to penalise a team for not playing to the rules of the game then fat chance the ither team has of putting a winning score on the board.

💯 deserves an inquiry. Never seen a rule officiated so differently for two sides in a match

The Blues are just as leaky as the Swans down back.... they just win a heap more of the stoppages and contested, getting it inside alot more (tonight).

The funny thing about their scoring is that going into this Round, we've scored more than them. You wouldn't think that based on the narratives around us and them.

The 726 points they had conceded coming into this round is worse than all other top 10 sides bar Richmond.

Sydney are hugely over-rated, agreed. Their only win of merit was vs Geelong, in Buddy's 1000th game, and Geelong are also pretty mid-road this year. Remaining wins are five of the bottom 6.

The Dogs just don't have the forward strength...they are mids & more mids. Carlton have them covered there.

Defensively they are also a stronger with the big full back.

I think in transition is where they will be caught out at the moment.

Cripps is still a one way runner and when you play a really good team everyone needs to buy into team defence.

I haven't seen enough to know how hard the forwards work outside of their zone. They put defensive pressure on there but do they push back hard enough to help out the back 6?

Going to be an interesting watch. When contested ball doesn't go their way, how do they stand up?

To be fair to the Dogs, Josh Bruce changes their forward line, gives Naughton a chop out. I reckon Naughton would be flying if he had McKay alongside him like Curnow does.

vs Hawthorn, 9 goals in the first half, 2 in the second

vs Port, 12 goals in the first half, 2 in the second

now vs Sydney, 12 goals in the first half, only 2 so far in the third quarter (and having conceded 5.4 at the same time)

We remember Carlton well because those four first halves have been intensely good, but they've been opened up defensively in each of those games too.

Walsh just waltzing around front & sqaure... nobody near him.  Awful Swans.  At least have someone going with him in that front half to try and pressure the turnover or even better win the ball first!

Yep, Bruce makes a difference but Curnow hasn't got McKay out there tonight and is going ok.

Their overall structure is better than the Dogs.

I'm still not convinced with their team defence and that's what we started to see a bit that Q.

If my memory serves me correctly, history says if you go 3 to 4 goals down by quarter time you only win about 2 out of 10 times coming back from there.

Fast Starts = Usually winning footy
