For the record books though Salem J.Smith Rivers Bowser Hunt Hibbo Petty Tommo and Angus are a very handsome supply from all different cost options but overall great value that have been magnificent as support of the two AA champs. leave it to deever 17,618 Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 Our win at the cattery last year was a badge of honor and a great effort. I do wonder if there was a crowd things might not have gone our way. Which brings me to the real reason for this post. Why do we play in Geelong every single year while the pies never do? I know we have the cats measure but the reality is, playing down there is akin to an interstate game and I'm curious why its always us. 3 Quote

The other reason is that the AFL are cheats. 3 Quote

This probably isn’t the place to debate it but this is a massive cause of frustration for me and to me is tantamount to cheating/clear favouritism by the AFL. I totally understand the “maximising attendance” attitude but it should be on a rotation between ALL Victorian clubs to ensure each Vic team has to make the trek down there and face off against the most parochial crowd and what I would call the strongest home ground advantage in the AFL. I might be wrong but didn’t Hawthorn or the Tigers “have to” go down there a season or two ago? And of course their fans were up in arms. The choice should be one of two: either make it a rotation of “big clubs” going down there every year (doesn’t have to be all of them just one or two), or they play all their home games down there. I don’t think you could find a competition in the world the bows at the feet of the “big clubs” more than the AFL, it’s disgraceful. Edited April 22, 2022 by Pates 4 Quote

It's what I believe has helped Geelong into so many finals series where they are then exposed.😁 1 Quote

It's what I believe has helped Geelong into so many finals series where they are then exposed.😁 100% it’s helped them to maintain their incredible finals record, and I would argue it’s a bigger advantage than what Adelaide/Port have at AO, and Freo/WC have at Perth Stadium. Reason being those are relatively new stadiums that have been built with dimensions that are very similar to other major stadiums in the country, at the grandstands and style of the ground protects it from unique elements. Compare that to KP where the dimensions are unique, and the weather exposure provides an element the the players would train in. Add to that the incredible home crowd advantage where they give the away fans a paltry amount of seats (disgraceful IMO that the AFL doesn’t mandate a minimum of 4-5k be allocated). WC/Freo used to have that at Subiaco, and so did Adelaide/Port at AAMI Stadium. 1 Quote

They keep getting gifted ground upgrades, including capacity upgrades. (This current one is "stage five"!) Do they get to keep the gate? If so, they're basically having someone else fund their ability to generate greater income week in and week out. 1 Quote

Perversely, though, every dollar Geelong generates at Kardinia Park helps us. The more that Geelong is self-sufficient, the more money the AFL has available to subsidise those that don't have advantages such as their own home ground. You can dress it up any way you like - whether it's an equalisation payment or improved stadium deals - it's all money that the AFL can give to the poorer clubs that it doesn't have to give the Cats. 1 Quote
Guest Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 This is a bit of a choose-your-own-margin one, but last year our biggest loss was by 20 points against the Dogs. Before that it was a 21-point, round 15 loss to Sydney in Cairns, and further back again a 28-point defeat to the Bulldogs in round 13 2020 vs the Dogs again. I have no idea, but are we searching for the record for the lowest losing margin below four or five goals in x number of games perhaps? Would take some effort, but it's probably more likely that we're currently breaking some lowest average losing margin against records over a certain period. 4 Quote

Interestingly, when he was going around he looked like one of the Beagle Boys - rough, tough and unsociable looking, as suggested by footy card photos of him; in person in the 21st century he was the exact opposite. Time for something more positive. What records do we now hold that are ones we can be proud of? Jake Bowey tops the list of players who never played in a loss with 10. The next best, held be a few people is 9. Is the 12 goals in a row the best ever in a Grand Final? Has any team ever kicked three goals in less than a minute of game time? Please add to the list. Let's enjoy our true magnificence! Now 13 games without a loss. Edited April 25, 2022 by La Dee-vina Comedia Quote
