Absolute dead ringer for his old man in that first photo!

Was going to say that's a Doggie Jr right there!

Another 24 possessions today for the Oakleigh Chargers. Very good for an under ager.  Look forward to seeing him in Red and Blue at the 2023 draft.

In a team that was filled with some top end talent such as George Wardlaw

Played well at the weekend for Vic Metro vs Queensland in the Under 17 Futures. Here’s how his performance was described in Rookie Me Central ~

#7 Kynan Brown (Oakleigh Chargers)
13/01/2005 | 180cm | Midfielder

Brown, a father-son candidate for Melbourne (son of Nathan), slotted straight into Metro’s midfield and had little trouble getting his hands on the ball. Though he possesses a punchy kick, he looked more slick by hand than foot, and used that to his advantage when helping his side work away from the centre bounces. A natural ball winner with strong bursts of speed, Brown was a consistent figure in the Big V.”

Jack, Kynan had a very rough first half with his ball use, particularly when on the end of some of Metro's offensive movement, burning four of five attacking forays with sloppy and or turnover entries, his in close work was uncharacteristically shaky as well.  I think he probably would have been at about 20-25% disposal efficiency first half.  Second half he was a lot more efficient and he was more involved as a handballing linkman/feeder which plays more to his strengths.  He works his socks off, runs good patterns and knows how to find the footy, his issue like dad will be his ball use.  The first half was the worst I've seen it.  To play in the starting midfield for this team was a big tick for him, but his disposal first half probably made it a neutral outing for him in turns of his draft status.  The more I'm watching him, I think clubs will see him as an Ed Langdon type and as I've suggested previously, a more offensively minded version of dad.

Thanks for your thoughts mate. Be nice to have an understudy to Lingers when the time comes.

havent had time to fully breakdown his best moments,

but there's a nice bit of play from Kynan (number 44, dont trust any report suggesting he is wearing #59) which shows what he's about at the 15:30 mark of the vid and a bit of a rap from Kevin Sheahan as well after it.

This match had a huge volume of draft prospects and in that piece of play, Brown plays a nice one-two with certain draftee Josh Weddle, who had got the ball from Collingwood NGA rookie certainty Yuyu Ashwin.  Brown finds another probable draftee Max Gruzewski with a nice pass.

You can probably see a bit of the Ed Langdon and his dad comparisoning.

There is a site called Cluch which is free to subscribe too which has uploaded the under 17 futures match as well for anyone interested in watching more of him in his 30 possession game.

A regular draft watcher went and watched the Oakleigh vs Sandy game on the weekend and took some notes on certain players that stood out to him.

His comment on Kynan.

Brown can find the footy, this has been proven week after week now. Melbourne would be loving what they see. His kicking needs a bit of work, and I suspect yesterday his confidence dropped as he started to distribute by hand more. He's quite quick as well. To be a starting mid in Oakleighs team is good sign for the Dees.

Nathan ‘Doggy’ Brown #25 was always first picked in my Dees side. His endeavour, hardness and consistency week in week out was a pleasure too watch. If Kynan is anything like his old man he will be a jet of a player...! I can’t wait too see him in the Red & Blue!

The determination and toughness is certainly there with young Kynan.

I guess when average kicks are teaching their sons growing up it makes sense 😛

Rarely wasted a disposal Brown Dog.. not a long kick but a good user.

Been an ok game for his so far. He is on the “other” wing and playing fairly wide. Has run all day and has good acceleration. I don’t think he does much unrewarded running though. He doesn’t strike me as a winger - more an actual midfielder. He loves the dont argue and does take the game on. Good decision maker and yes his kicking might need a bit of work (but the kicking today has been horrid). Absolutely will be drafted, no question there. But is feeling a second rounder. I think that maybe at Oakleigh he’ll be able to show his strengths in and under next year, but this role is not doing him any favours.

feel you're being kind, hasnt got near it today unfortunately, doesn't really reflect on his talent. he's got ability but has had a down day and if what you're saying is true and i've not really noticed where he has (thats how little hes been involved) then yeh he's been done no favours by being played on a wing as it doesn't suit his skill set and give him the best chance to perform at a high level

Agreed. Had a terrible first half and looked lost. Seemed to not know where to run. Does he usually play wing/forward? Done a couple of good things since half time though, one beautiful kick at half back.

he's an inside bull, in and under first hands tough as nails, thats the bread and butter of his game

Scouting Notes: 2022 AFL Under 17 Futures

Not an altogether glowing report but he has a year to work on his game.

#3 Kynan Brown (Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro)

Having cut his teeth mostly as a midfielder for Oakleigh, Brown spent plenty of time in Team Murphy’s forward line on Saturday. The Melbourne father-son prospect could not be faulted for effort, as he sought to accelerate into scoring positions but found himself caught on the burst inside 50. Still, he backed his speed well and created scoring opportunities, albeit under pressure and largely to no avail.

Nathan Brown was one of my favourite players.  He was a bloody good workhorse, quick and great role player.  Kynan is very similar to his dad but i actually think he plays a bit more like Jack Viney...just a hard nut. Kynan has been training with the boys pre christmas and looked good imo. I would be really surprised if we didn't pick him up.
