Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Welcome to Demonland Kynan Brown

Fantastic! Next year will be the perfect time for us to draft a young inside mid. Sounds like he could play forward early on.

Hoping we trade all future first picks to this year. Might need to bring in some future late picks

He's a left footer, played mostly in the guts and a bit on the wing on the weekend for the Chargers.  Their team had a number of high profile players missing and they gave games to some of their under 16 players, including defender Doug Kerr who was probably their best player and is an extremely exciting prospect for the 2024 draft.  Kynan is only small like his dad, but links play up well and is a good and simple decision maker with clean enough hands.  His best attribute is probably his speed, when he gets ball in hand he has a good burst of acceleration that can put two or three yards on an opponent from nowhere.  The knock is probably going to be on his kicking, it's not awful but its not damaging.

All in all probably a similar player to his dad but probably with more of an attacking bent - a small, quick, hardworking goer.

I'd be surprised if he's a high draft pick next year that has us being seen to be exploiting the draft system, but wouldn't be surprised if he was in Vic Metro's squad next year and then was on our list in some way, shape or form come year's end.

Watched some vision of his from the weekends game.

I think you have summed it up well. His speed and attack on the footy is impressive for an under-ager.

I dont think he's a first rounder for next year but he's certainly an early to mid 2nd rounder in my opinion. He form in the NAB League as an under-age is actually pretty impressive and I think with another pre season under his belt and exposure through the Vic Metro will potentially push him up the charts.

Next year he'll play a more permanent midfield role as this year he's had a mix of more half forward and midfield due to someone the big names that's playing there this year.

The way he moves and zips around reminds me of Josh Daicos.

Not getting carries away at this stage but Kyan Brown tracking quite well as an under ager for Oakleigh Chargers.

See link below and scroll down to Western Jets Vs Oakleigh Chargers.

Listed as a game key player and 3rd in medal votes.

Going ok for an under ager.

From a  9th May 2018 AFL Website article on Father/Sons:

Watch list:

Jeff White's son Kalani, 11, is another the club is keeping an eye on while he plays his footy for Surfers Paradise in Queensland. White also has twin sons named Kai and Tahj, still only seven years old. Adem Yze's son Noah, 12, Aaron Davey's son Marley, 8, David Schwarz's son Cooper, 14 and Shane Woewodin's son Taj, 15, are others on the Demons' radar, although admittedly they are all very young. Defender Nathan Brown also has three sons – Kynan, 13, Jake, 11, a talented soccer player, and Ryder, 9.

Past father-son successes:

Todd and Jack Viney are the club's major success story, with father and son both winners of the Demons' best and fairest award (1993, 1998 and 2016 respectively). Steven and Billy Stretch, Ron Barassi snr and jnr, Alan and Chris Johnson and Glenn Molloy and Graham Molloy are other examples of Melbourne's father-son combinations. - Ben Guthrie

Fairly certain the guy that wrote that wasn't at nor watched the game in some other form.

Regrettably, this is a problem these days with some of those who cover this area.

However, I believe that Brown has been selected to play in the Vic Metro Under 17 Future stars team on Sunday.

Would love to get a look at his game, sounds like he's tracking nicely. You don't lose any friends being a workhorse.

Here is the match, Layzie.

Kynan is wearing number 44.

Other players of note are:

Chargers -

13 Nathan Philactides - Vic Metro bottom ager like Kynan rebounding defender/wingman

41 Doug Kerr - 15 year old defender, impressive!

34 Tom Gross - another highly rated 15 year old, midfield/half forward

Western Jets

53 Logan Morris - Bottom Ager like Kynan Key Forward who I think will be first rounder next year.

41 Jake Smith - bottom age midfielder.

Earlier you mentioned that you think he will more likely be a second round pick.

I assume that as he is pulling big numbers and being named in the best teams whilst being an underager that he would excel further when he is playing agaisnt kids his own age next year. Therefore, I assume that he would be a certainty to be a first rounder.

Is this a bit of an over simplification on my part?

You make a reasonable assumption in theory, but it's of course a little more nuanced than that.  Firstly, Brown is a January birthday so he will be one of the oldest players in his draft pool next year.  That means 'in theory' he is better able to cope with the demands of NAB football this year and also 'in theory' that he is less likely to have physical development improvement year to year.  It also 'in theory' means there a lot of players who with the more likelihood of added development (experience, growth et centera) could catapult over him.  There are players drafted every year who club's over-rate or draft higher because they are born later and have that theoretical more improvement.  I don't think the above is true of Kynan, because is small and seems like he will grow a bit more and has some upsize, but it is relevant as a response to your question.

The problem for Brown's draft standing is he is small, not an elite kick and likely to project to play at AFL level, some of the least difficult roles to fill (wing/flanker type) These are the things that hurt the loftiness of his likely draft position.

He's a good little player, but there a likely to be quite a few of them available.   At this stage I can think of 20 players who have showed more promise or who I think AFL clubs would likely covet more and I'm confident would be ranked ahead of him at this stage.  That takes into account no WA players and none of the players tied to interstate academies.  There will be a lot of players come from the clouds next year too.

It's possible there were five players playing in the Jets v Oakleigh game that will be drafted ahead of him next year.  It's not likely but it is possible.

Its also possible he could put on 5kg, grow an inch or two, and average 35 per game and be seen as a poor man's Sam Walsh and go top 20.

I just don't see, at the moment, many clubs desperate to use an early pick on an undersized wingman, without elite footskills.

Knighmare on Bigfoooty tipped him as a 2nd or 3rd rounder some ago. Its appears he has improved significantly since first selected for the Chargers. He started as a half back and moved into the midfield. He makes up for lack of size with toughness and hard at it play - the things that Goody likes. Goody also likes that together with footskills - Bowey.  Footskills are the difference between 1st round and the following rounds.

You are right it all depends on whether he can again rise to another level next season.

I would say if he continues improving he will be drafted to the Dees for sure.

Played well at the weekend for Vic Metro vs Queensland in the Under 17 Futures. Here’s how his performance was described in Rookie Me Central ~

#7 Kynan Brown (Oakleigh Chargers)
13/01/2005 | 180cm | Midfielder

Brown, a father-son candidate for Melbourne (son of Nathan), slotted straight into Metro’s midfield and had little trouble getting his hands on the ball. Though he possesses a punchy kick, he looked more slick by hand than foot, and used that to his advantage when helping his side work away from the centre bounces. A natural ball winner with strong bursts of speed, Brown was a consistent figure in the Big V.”

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
