2021 Player Reviews #24 Trent Rivers

Featured Replies

Riv feels like another of our young brigade who should end up a 200+ gamer. Has been very impressive in his first two seasons across HB, plays with a ton of composure, is a good interceptor, has speed off half back, a long kick and plays with heart. Looking forward to many more great games from our #24 whether down back or in the midfield. Stupid sexy Riv.

And along with bowey imagine how good these kids will be at 25 after playing alongside and under May and Lever support and leadership. SALEM ALSO in that role.

His upside is huge considering he was playing his 34 game in the GF and his position in the side was never in question thru out the season.

I still think he will become a wingman in the future because he has that attacking flare for such a young man.

I agree I’d like to see him on the wing in future. He’s the longest kick in the side with a booming hoof. That can be really damaging.

What a player.

Doesn't get the headlines of the other two from that magnificent draft but does his job well week in, week out. Provides excellent release from the backline, an excellent tackler and a good midfield rebounder.

Has become one of my favourite players.

Big future, love the kid.

Wife reckons he gives Matthew Mcconaughey a run for his money as well.

Your wife is confusing Matthew McConaughey with Heath Ledger:

My wife thinks the same😀. Trent Rivers is a very confident and competent young man, he has taken AFL in his stride and has made us a better team. I love his competitiveness his toughness, controlled aggression and his booming kick coupled with his team first values. Top effort young man.💕❤️💙

And can the boy lay a tackle!!!

Sometimes I think, You’ve no business dragging these very experienced players to the ground so perfectly, young man! 😁

Love, love, love Riv. ❤️💙

Another one for whom it is difficult to understand how he is playing so well so early in his career. No flash in the pan either - he has been playing at his same level for 2 seasons.

I thought the 1st quarter of the final against Brisbane, he was fumbly and nervous. But he was as solid as a rock after quarter time and hardly put a foot wrong for the rest of the campaign.

A bit of run and carry, a bit of bravado, a wonderful kick, and as tough as old nails. How could you not love this bloke! I may even be tempted to move one of my all time favourite Dees - Brett Lovett - out of half back in my best ever Dees 22.

As other posters have suggested, Trent plays well beyond his youth and experience, and handles the ‘big occasions’ with aplomb ……… Messrs. May and Lever ‘take a bow!’  Seems to have red and blue blood in his veins, and is another whose signature we should be seeking at an early date.  Great kid!  Great recruiting!

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
