I went to South Australia for a week to see my brother and his wife and try as I might I couldn't convince them to watch the replay. To make matters worse my sister in law loves classical music and whilst I don't mind it I had trouble listening to it for 6 or 7 hours at a time and after spending half a day with either Bach or Beethoven in the background I was about ready to slash my wrists sensing this my dear sister in law would throw on some Enya or whale sounds to cheer me up.

So after 7 days of this and missing the MCG Celebration and the replay, I got home yesterday and the first thing I did was turn the replay on and again today, I think I've wiped out the memory of my "holiday" over in SA but to make sure I will watch it again tomorrow.

As one with relatives in SA who I love dearly but who don't exactly all share the same tastes as me, this post hit closer to home than you would imagine. I bet you're glad to be back!

Maybe this post should be in Post Game - Round 1 thread.

I am finding it interesting to look back of replays of the games this season through a prism of winning the Grand Final and the quality of play that we achieved in the second half of that game.

Here are some of my observations on the Round 1 Freo game.

- Playing in the game were Tomlinson, Hunt, Jones, Jetta and Jordon who were all missing from the GF team.

- Kossie was deployed at the opening center bounce.

- our defence started the season the way they  meant to play for the whole of the season... conceded no goals in the first quarter. in the first quarter all of Lever, May, Tomlinson and Rivers all took contested intercept marks. trademark of the defence right there.

- Goodwin coaching from the bench was something that he did all of the season. looked to have an immediate connection with the players. Will be interesting to see if other coaches follow his direction on this.

- Brayshaw on a wing. it was interesting to see how this developed over the season. in this Round 1 game, he was there but not a fully fledged member of the Wingers Club. it was good that during the season this was persisted with as he has developed into this position well and excelled in the final series.

- Sparrow looked at home in the team and provided good links into the forwards with some excellent delivery. he built on this during the season.

- ANB ran all day and continued to do so all season.

- I saw some glimpses of the way we developed during the season with the overlap running, both through the center and on Langdon's wing with players like Hunt, Salem, Rivers and Jackson running in waves.

I aim to watch replays of all the games last season during the off season and might add some observations as I do.

Interesting observations. Please post your comments regarding each match as new separate threads.

I have been working my way through replays of matches. TMac was so good in the first half of the season ... and Lingers and Hunt. Their form was a large part of getting off to such a good start to the season. Conversely it was sad to re-visit Nev's games, and Weid's.

Nev sadly played 1 season too long however his benefit was off field  helping Kozzie . Weid just didnt take his chances  when playing in the team without BBB .With covid just another fringe player unable  to play with Casey in the later season to get and maintain form incase needed  in September. Hoping 2018 finals was not a flash in the pan.

The  Interesting thing I saw with Nev was that he was way too good for the twos,

Every game I saw (including some live) he just cruised around and yet imposed himself on the game.

A shame he didn't get to play in a granny.  Such a big part of our previous success.

There were complaints from Bulldogs fans that some of our handballs weren't punched. After reviewing it l do see that some were questionable. But the fact is they had some that should have been reviewed that weren’t and they fail to even mention that.

There was that goal the Fritch kicked that I thought was out of bounds on the full, but was thrown in. Having said that, I still think they got away with more than we did

Phukkkkk . . . bit rich coming from the mob the invented the 'virtual throw'.

I dream of meeting Essendon in the grannie and beating them by a point. Sweet mother of god that’d be the ultimate.
(Though, I daresay my heart would beg to disagree.) 😁

I love the fact they haven't won a final in 16 years . . . let the trend continue I say.

Does any one else experience the following . . . ???

You come to this thread on the weekend wondering what page number you were up to the last time you checked it out. You're pretty sure you've read every page and you don't wanna miss anyone's posts. So you cycle back 10 pages just to make sure you haven't missed anything? Takes up about two hours of your time. But you don 't care . . . cos the Deez won a phuuuukkkkking premiership 74 dayz ago.

I was thinking the 2021 grand final was like every Hulk Hogan match from the 80s; starts out winning, the heel gets on top during the middle then a big comeback at the end to win.

Marcus Bontempelli should really have been reported for his hit on Oliver around the 12 minute mark in the second.

Maybe he has. I apologize if I've missed it.

Clayton had his head down low going for the ball and good old Bont only had eyes for collecting him. His arm was tucked in and he went straight for the ram. Bont wasn't protecting himself or going for the ball. It was a clear premeditated hit. Lucky Oliver wasn't concussed but it could have had a big impact if he was.

Goodwin can coach from the bench because he can trust Yze and others in the box to make calls.

He also does it to predict the momentum from ground level. If the opposition get a run on he decides if it is due to our structures, matchups or a bit of luck. He is proving to be very good at it.

LET’S DO THIS!!!!!

Let’s NOT do a Smith and/or Warner and get out on 95! Instead, let’s do a Travis Head and go the tonne in record time!

I had a VHS tape of my family's first overseas holiday to Hawaii, I had to lug around this huge camera that held a full size VHS tape, it was something i treasured.

Anyway, I had a few of my friends around to watch the football and without me knowing one of these mental giants decided to slip a tape to record the other game being played, guess which one he used.😢

St Kilda vs Fitzroy, VFL Park, round 11 1985. St Kilda 8.11 d. Fitzroy 5.13. I think Fitzroy kicked two goals in 10 minutes and Peter Landy made the instant classic comment "bang bang". You'll never regret having that to watch over and over again.

🙋‍♀️ I’m that mate. I taped over my best friend’s wedding. 😬 She had left it at mine and I wanted to tape The Young Ones which was premiering on TV that night. I just grabbed the nearest tape and the rest is history. Thing is, I was one of the bridesmaids and made no secret of the fact that I didn’t like the salmon-coloured, puffy-sleeved, frilly-edged number I had to wear. She was like, ‘Awww, thank you so much for agreeing to wear it even though it’s not your cup of tea.’ I said: ‘No sweat, I’ll just destroy all photographic evidence afterwards. It’ll be like your wedding never happened.’ I actually said that!

😳

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
