Gary Ayres Medal

Should be done on average, but don't think anyone really values the medal unless it compliments a premiership one

Interesting vote spread.  Obviously Gawn hit the two 5's, then Salem and Tracc went 4/2 and 3/3 one way or the other, Oliver got 4/0, Viney 2/1 and Pickett 1.

Pointless medal. If it’s not done on averages, then anyone who plays less matches is disadvantaged.

Norm Smith is the only finals medal that counts. Reckon Trac is gonna win that!

Didn't even know this award existed..

Dogs play an extra game so how can an MFC player possibly win it?

Just win the Norm Smith Clarrie - that's all that matters!

totals should be divided by games played.......with a minimum 2 or 3 games

Given this award could be won by a player who doesn't win a Premiership Medal, it would have been better to call it the Gary Ablett Sr medal. Probably the best finals player never to have won a Premiership I've seen.

Haha. I’ve seen some mathematically questionable awards before (I’m looking at you, Demonland Player of the Year!), but that takes some beating.

Ahh, a premiership medal is much more valuable than a Norm Smith one.

Doggies can have it, provided we win the ones that matter.

Hell, the Bont can have the Brownlow and the Norm Smith provided Gawn and co get the other 23.

Yep.  Happy for the Bont to join the prestigious club of Norm Smith medalists from the losing team.  👍

Clearly compromised award.  Here are some alternatives that keep the award a coach voted system..

Option 1 - Only use votes from the PF and GF's.  If there's a tie, whoever receives more votes in the GF takes the award.

Option 2 - Use votes from SF, PF and GF.  Players from teams that don't play in the SF's score double in the PF.  Break tie the same way.

Week one of finals involves 2 games involving the top 4 teams, 2 games involving teams 5-8.  Obvious difference in quality so easiest way is to discount that whole week.  Alternative is to apply multipliers to the games.  QF votes are worth more than votes from EF's  (maybe only a 4,3,2,1 vote system for EF's?)

Clearly the award should go to aplayer that plays in the GF.  Another reason to exclude FW1 game as with the fewer games contributing to scoring, you pretty much have to play in the GF to win it.

I didn't know this award even existed.

If you asked me previously, I would have guessed that it was awarded to the player with the most spectacular mullet in the AFL.
