I don’t how I missed seeing this, but that’s amazing! The red sand and the blue sky is such a brilliant take. The club needs to make Red Sand and Blue Sky merch. I’d be all over it.

At all our home games the boys should run out to the song in a different language that represents one of our former or current players nations. We need to be the club that makes our indigenous history a part of our current culture, and this is a great way to do it. Well done to all involved.

I’m not sure what singular gesture we or the club can do to not trigger memories of what’s been a traumatic week for Kozzy.

That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do anything. I definitely don’t wholeheartedly oppose @Wizard of Koz’s suggestion, and as part of a broader effort it is great. On the contrary, we should definitely do something but I believe we can be much more ambitious. What I’m saying is that the fight we take up extends beyond the symbolic and isolated.

I think the club can be bolder. And with an eye on a longer game.

Whatever the club and the players do, I hope that both solidarity and support are provided, are unconditional and extend to tackling and educating others about where Australia is at in terms of racism generally and in helping to tackle the obscene and immoral Indigenous health, educational and criminal justice outcomes witnessed in so many cases.

This should be done over the long term. Not just when things hit the headlines.

We all share so many common values as Australians, and one I hear so often is one of ‘mateship’. We, and the MFC, CAN better extend what this concept is by consistently and habitually extending a hand towards the nation’s first peoples, having their backs in times of sorrow such as now, and to help create an Australia that better extends the ideals of fraternity, solidarity and equity.

I know we have this in us.

I absolutely love this version of the Grand Old Flag - I think it was played last year vs St Kilda? I’d love to hear it more often at the G.

Whilst I’m here, does anyone else think that the Welcome To Country that is played at the G before games is a bit quiet and lost between everything else? I would love our club to be proud of the Welcome To Country and put it out front, rather than it just being treated as a cultural nicety.

Kossie should take it like a badge of honor that he is getting under the skin of idiots. It means he's playing well and doing his job. There is no place for racism in Australia. I don't know why they do it.

I don't want to be an annoying left-wing type, but what does that version of the Grand Old Flag have to do with Kossie? To me, it feels like if they played the horrible Kiwi national anthem (sorry Max and others, it's all those wacky key changes) if I won an Olympic medal. And I grew up closer to Auckland than what Pickett did to western Alice.

I don't dare to speak on Kozzie's behalf, so maybe best to ask him what response he would like, if any, and if he even wants to be the centre of attention at such a young age? He shouldn't be responsible for bearing any sort of anti-racism flag. Listening is the key, not well-meaning individuals coming up with 'solutions'.

Sorry - I didn't mean to be a drag in what is obviously a celebratory thread. Absolutely love the kid, and have confidence the club, our club, is already doing everything right by him to the best of its ability.

what you walk past you accept.

Its not for Kozz exclusively I suppose. More of a whole club inclusiveness statement.

This isn’t applicable right here.
It’s 100% true, but it just doesn’t apply to what Skuit said.

I don't walk past anything, as evidenced by my response. I appreciate your thread and intentions. It's not just not walking past things, it's about listening and being educated. Just keep listening. Listening, listening, listening.

That's okay WoK. I think most of us want to see better outcomes and a happier life for the indigenous members of our football team and in Australia in general, whatever that looks like. Most decent people agree on that. I don't want to badger.

I reckon we should use the back of this year's indigenous jumper (without the player names) as the back of our regular jumper. Looks great, doesn't impact on the front design, and would make us the first side (?) to have a permanent indigenous presence on the jumper.

I think our clash should be an indigenous design all year round (still disco blue of course).

This is disgraceful and Kozzie should be supported to the hilt. The idiots doing this should be drummed out of the game,

But part of me also says Koz should toughen up a bit. Sadly in won't be the last time this happens no matter what we all wish.

I don't need PC politics shoved down my throat whenever I watch the football thanks.

It's common human decency and respect for others.

Has not Australia always prided itself on the maxim of a fair go for everybody?

That's not annoyingly lefty at all Skuit.

100% reasonable.

I'm sure Koz is feeling the full support of his club at this time.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
