Diamond_Jim 12,778 Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 (edited) If you can build a roofed stadium for $750M I would be very surprised. Has any developer actually offered that price. Does Tasmania have the workers Based on cost per seat which is a good way of comparing build costs Australia had the highest cost in the world (Optus stadium in Perth) and the Gabba estimates are even higher Edited March 18, 2024 by Diamond_Jim Quote

NZ stadium is a pretty similar in concept, I think it will host rugby and cricket, but not 100% sure. The other design (MacPoint 2.0) sound looks like it will fund through private investment, the sale of the units that they will build (and sound proof hopefully ;) ) a hospital, car parks etc.... Apparently they save a lot of money in their design by not needing to 'skin' the stadium, One side is dug into the side of the regatta ground, and they are using the earth to push out into the Derwent for the rest of the stadium precinct. Can Victoria afford to spend $1Billion to upgrade the MCG to upgrade the great southern stand.... which apparently might increase capacity by 5000? and allow more food and beverage locations in it? I get that you guys have so much money you are throwing it at paying off the commonwealth games committee, but still that's a lot of money :D Adelaide Oval was $610 mil I think Quote
Maldonboy38 6,436 Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 It seems fairly clear that Tassie people want an AFL team, but don't want the proposed stadium. It also seems fairly clear that the AFL want a Tassie AFL team, only on the condition that it is formed around the provision of a modern boutique stadium. Further, it seems clear that the decision re the stadium is being made so close to an election has made it a political watershed (i.e a dividing point for opinion). Unfortunately, Tassie is currently a political minnow and its political storm feels like a tiny gust of wind in Canberra, and the state governments of Vic and NSW. And the "will of the people" is often irrelevant to people with decision making power, or influence over decision making. Make no mistake, this is going to be exactly what the AFL want it to be - no compromise and no exceptions. By 2028 - 2030 there will be a huge modern stadium on that nominated location, with the AFL CEO standing shaking hands with a smiling/grimacing state premier talking about this being a great moment for the state. 1 Quote
Ouch! 2,276 Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 4 hours ago, whatwhat say what said: and this is where they're completely delusional big tours that can fill baseball stadiums - the likes of taylor swift, pink, fredagain etc. - play primarily in melbourne and sydney, not even brisbane, let alone perth or adelaide - they're never going to play in tasmania when even fairly large acts like queens of the stone age play in tassie they're headlining tiny venues compared to what they can do in melbs or syds cos, well, hobart simply doesn't have the population to support tours by international acts What a ray of sunshine you are! Who ever said we were thinking of Taylor Swift type acts? but Tas wasn't looking at those types of acts anyway, That said anything that could go to Rod Laver Arena 15k or AAMI stadium 30k would be possible. Queens came here to play at MonaFoma, it's supposed to be an exclusive for MONA. We can and have attracted acts like Foo Fighters, Chilli peppers etc. I'm sure if a suitable venue is available, Tas will be able to get acts to come here, and we might even get mainland people coming for those acts... but that could be delusional too I guess. I have to say there are a lot of people on the mainland who seem to actually like thinking that Tasmania can't stand on it's own two feet, can't support a team, can't build a stadium. It's almost like you prefer to look down on people to make you feel better about yourselves, it's a sad way to live. I thought the NIMBY's all lived in Tasmania, but it feels like mainlanders see Tassie as it's backyard and would prefer it to remain a national park, power the mainland with our hydroelectric power and feed you salmon. 1 Quote

A lot of people do want the stadium too. It's not a majority that don't, it's a loud minority that always squeal the loudest. It needs a stadium, but it's a political football (bad pun) and the road ahead won't be smooth. Quote

The yes Stadium group on FB has 23k members but support is much bigger than that. Biggest problem is our Health system is [censored] but not because of lack of funding. It gets more than enough $$$ but it is so poorly spent. Yet most don't understand this and say we should spend it on Health. No Stadium = no money. Edited March 18, 2024 by Clintosaurus 1 1 Quote

Tassie spends more than 7.25 million a DAY on health, a full 1/3 of the state budget is allocated to health. Putting 375Million (over the next 3-4 years) will not make a difference to health services or education services. The systems themselves are broken, not the amounts put into it. Quote
Rab D Nesbitt 8,966 Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 So basically their state jumper then. I thought they might go without the map and keep it for state representative football. Other than that the colours and logo look great. Quote
