And Spargo and Sparrow are both 22 or under. We had 8 who were 22 or under on Monday.

Didn’t David King say we had to win the flag this year, because the Dogs have the oncoming talent to wrap it up for the next 3 or 4? He really has no idea.

The Dogs will add Darcy to their list this year as FS that will give them 3 young key forwards with Naughton.  This is the only area we don't have any real young talent

If we can keep the Perth trio signed on and happy in Melbourne we're pretty well set up for some consistent football for quite some time. The three of them have such high ceilings. We're clearly drafting very well the last few years but the player development within the club has been outstanding. So keen to see how Rosman, Laurie, Turner and Smith develop with a few preseasons under their belt.

To me there's only a handful of players who have had a bit of time at the club with whom the jury is still out whether they can perform at AFL level and thats Baker, Bedford and Chandler. Its as much about our depth probably keeping them from opportunity then anything else as well.

I've left out the two mid season recruits. As you can see from footywire's squad list they're still a bit too young to play AFL yet.

Yes, there are new umpires coming through to replace Margetts and Razor Ray.

Zero nominations in 2020 to five nominations in 2021. That’s no mean feat! ❤️💙

Bedford and Chandler in particular have had no chance to develop given the lack of VFL in the past  couple of years.  Having said that I agree that their positions on the list are questionable.

But geez, they’d look adorable running out in their little red and blue onesies.

Bowey will be in that next year.

Oozes self confidence for someone his age and experience.

In fairness, his debut was horrible. Never seen a worse one. Even in the Neeld days.

Guessing you missed Jack Watt's debut then?

yes, the comments at the time were petty

Unfortunately, those who made them won't back down.

Hopefully Laurie and Rosman as well. Skies the limit for this group.!!!

Two greats to come amongst a couple of others (whose names I cannot instantly remember) to strengthen how we are going to look in 2022.

Don't overlook Petty in front of goals ... time will come.

I hope Petty can take May's spot in 2-3 years and continue on with Lever down back.  We have Fritsch and Weiderman I think both are around 24 years old, I haven't given up on Weiderman just needs to stay healthy through pre-season

Can't remember exactly which year but didn't he debut, perhaps prematurely, v Saints after which many here vilified him and called for his immediate delisting (if not dismemberment)?

His purported failure was entirely due to a coaching failure. In the last quarter of a close game, his first, he was left one out in the goal square against a saintless forward (I think Bruce) who was just too strong and too experienced and was able to score. It was the failure by the coaches that cost us the game.

May and Lever and even Petty would make sure that this will not happen again.

Good point you make, it would be a cruel cut considering that  they've had little to no opportunity to play. I have sympathy for any player that gets cut this year, but we know the list has to turnover.. Looking at the players coming out of contract this years there's only 2 players who I think will retire. Many of the rest will be on tenterhooks:

Senior List:

  • Baker
  • Bedford
  • Hore
  • Jetta - probable retirement
  • Jones Probable retirement
  • Lockhart
  • Hibberd
  • Smith.J
  • VDB
  • Weideman

Rookies:

  • Brown.M
  • Chandler
  • Daw
  • Nietschke
  • Smith.D
  • Bradtke
  • Declase
  • Turner

Awesome stuff

Rivers should’ve been HBF & Quaynor on the bench though 😉

Well done to those three. What a draft!

The irony of 2019 being an awful season (after the high of 2018) is we were able to land these three.

One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
