No MD

I'm just not going to tell people what the thread is.  Says a lot to me that no one has got it yet

It's just so obvious to those without prejudice or without blinkered views

Also, I wouldn't dare post on the thread in question as I'm not going to take on the mob (without support)

This is starting to feel like one of @Demonstone’s dastardly discombobulating puzzles. Only, not as much fun. The Friday the 13th version, maybe.
All I’ve got is the Jake Bowey thread but that can’t be it coz nobody was bagging him. They merely mentioned his red hair.
My other “guess” is the Dean Margetts is retiring thread. But that can’t be it either. That’s not an example of prejudice in the true meaning of the word. It’s merely bagging someone who many feel is not doing a good job.

So yeah, I am and shall remain 100% none the wiser.

I guess it could possibly be either the Viney thread or the COVID thread.

Surely he's not equating racially vilifiying somone (abusing someone about, and because of their race) with critisising someone about their performance who just happen to be white?  Surely he's not that silly.

Criticism or outright abuse (and worse)

The bloke in question would have every right to be aggrieved by the vitriol pointed in his direction.  Extremely hurtful especially when factoring in mental illness issues

But we are creatures of habit and one persons normal can be another persons outrage

It has become quite apparent that you are referring to the Tex Walker thread, and yes, some of the commentary ha been waaaaay over the top, but when I see Betts talking about things from the perspective of an indigenous person, then the mental health argument can be applied equally, if not more so, to the victims as opposed to the instigators.

Can everyone please stop engaging with this trash.

This thread is meant to be about support and discussion around one of our Indigenous players being the victim of racism, it's not meant to be a grievance guessing game for trolls.

Step back and take a good look at yourself 'Macca'.

No,  Walker got what he deserved

I would have turfed him out for at least half of next year and then some

And the reason I brought up my original point is to point out that prejudice lies elsewhere and if people want to be fair-minded, they should practice what they preach

I hear you, Nev. And while I did refer to this as a guessing game, I seriously would like to know to whom prejudicial comments were made. Because if I’ve been guilty of this I’d like to be told so as I can address it. But I can’t even begin to think of atonement when I don’t know to whom and in which way I’ve erred.

It's clearly just going to be 'whataboutism'. Don't engage. 'Macca' is just the next in line poster in this thread trying to deflect and minimize the experience of Indigenous people in this country because they either can't or won't comprehend how racism is about power and that's why it's not the same experience for everyone.

Wow 🤩 i never thought i would see a video such as that on Demonland!!

Very well put together btw.

Trump put Racism back on the map for at least 50 years. (Charlottesville)

It was a very scary time, which is still rolling…

Ah, the old Charlottesville hoax.

People have been pushing this Charlottesville thing since the day after it happened and I wonder if many have actually watched the video or read the written text of the press conference.

His "fine people" quote was in reference to the people protesting the removal of statues and yet everyone willfully ignores this very clear line.

"So you know what, it’s fine. You’re changing history. You’re changing culture. And you had people -- and I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists -- because they should be condemned totally. But you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists. Okay? And the press has treated them absolutely unfairly.

"Now, in the other group also, you had some fine people. But you also had troublemakers, and you see them come with the black outfits and with the helmets, and with the baseball bats. You had a lot of bad people in the other group."

Crikey faulty, you get so triggered by any mention of Trump.

I assume you've read his new book?

Yes. Name-calling and abuse is but the tip of a deep but insidious iceberg.

You couldn't be wrong ... especially if you know my life history.  Put it this way, I indirectly experience racism on a daily basis.  My partner cops it directly

And it's not pleasant ... so much so that we had to move to a more 'multicultural' area to escape it all

So you've jumped to the wrong conclusion ... the mistake I made was mentioning the word 'white' in my original post ... I've been lumped in with others who use the word 'white' for other reasons

So cool your heels and ease up on the face palming

'Say No To Racism'

But I find it rather ironic that on another thread that is often running side by side with this one involves the vilification & abuse of a white man

No one has come to his defence and even his family & children are being brought into the argument (by default)

Sadly, many of you won't even know what I'm talking about such are the blinkered views of the mob

I'm for fairness all round but people can't pick and choose in that area.  Otherwise, hypocrisy reigns supreme

@Lord Nev @WalkingCivilWarI reckon @Macca was referring to the Dean Margetts thread.

You couldn't be more wrong about me Lord Nev

I'm not deflecting, more so broadening the argument.  Unfortunately my use of the word 'white' in my original post has been lumped in with others who use the word in more sinister ways

I indirectly experience racism on a daily basis ... my partner directly.  So much so that we had to move to a more multicultural area of Melbourne to escape it all

And to say it's not at all pleasant would be understating things

Most of it is subtle but that's often the worst type of discrimination

By the way, the thread I was referring to was the Dean Margetts one. On top of that particular thread, the general abuse that he cops on a regular basis outside of that thread (game day thread, post match thread etc etc)

Over the top, clearly wrong and with a heavy bias to the whole W/L hip pocket area

In my eyes I saw him as a fine umpire who paid free kicks to players who play in front and are first in the ball (which the Eagles are good at)

I watched it all Live Fault. All of it. I was in shock. i  was on long service so had all the channels going in the Hotel Room

I also remember what Trump said (or more precisely what he didn’t say)

The KKK was back in town

You are, albeit potentially not on purpose. So stop.

So you don't place any weight whatsoever on the fact he SPECIFICALLY said he wasn't referring to white supremacists and that they should be "condemned totally"?

That's the entire point of the criticism against him from many quarters.

Macca surely you can see how takimg up space in this thread to discuss vilifying an umpire detracts from the issue at hand?

I attached the clubs statement earlier.

It doesn't ask us to "compare racism to other discrimination and assess which is worse".

It doesn't ask us to debate whether what was said was really that bad (like posters who focussed on knowing the particular words tried to do).

It certainly doesn't ask "why should First Nations people get special awards, isn't that racism itself?" (which one poster did).

It asks us to play a proactive role in stamping out racism, to call out racism where we see it.

If you are well intentioned, don't bring the topic down to this level. There are posters here who are pushing racist talking points, trying to sabotage the conversation. Tackle that issue, that's what it's about this week.

Leave the treatment of umpires for another time.

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
