You. Have. To. Be. Kidding

I can barely remember a game umpired so poorly and so inconsistently. And i remember a lot of games where the umpiring has been woeful.

It was 11-4 at half time.

Our fourth free kick happened on our half back line with 5 seconds to go. So it was essentially 11-3.

And as always, it was the frees missed that were significant than the ones given.

Sure we lost the game, and that's on us, but there is absolutely no question a big factor in their 21 point lead at half time was the rubbish umpiring.

Simply not good enough.

We are not going to agree on this one binman. Blaming the umpire is the perennial excuse for not playing well enough .

That is Goodwin and now Gawn suggesting that we are all ok jack. Well I'm not convinced and I am 100% with your summation

They say everything is fine, you disagree. Fair enough.

Look on the bright side - you now have the opportunity to observe a period of curiosity in waiting to see whether indeed they were right, and everything was fine. And you were wrong.

We all hope for the latter right

Yes hope is all we have at any time on this side of the fence. Actually we are not in the ground very often lately.

But it doesn’t have to be one or the other, right? It can be both at the same time, ie., atrocious umpiring AND not playing well. Therefore, you can have two reasons and not necessarily one excusing the other.
BTW, feel free to tell me to STFU but I think I’m sorta making sense here. ?

I didn't blame the umpires.

I said they were terrible.

You're forgetting the stat that lost us the game...

11-25

Get first use without holding your opponent,   this does not matter and the differential becomes far less

That would reduce the member numbers in 2022 Binman. I promise you if we win the GF I will not issue one word of joy. I will sulk at home on my own.

Nah you're on to something here. Sometimes it feels like many want us to lose to validate their own assumptions that we'll fail (based on solid evidence of course)

I'll never suggest we don't have issues right now OD. I will say its entirely possible that our recent form can be attributed to something that won't be an issue in September, like training loads. I enjoy footy more when I look at it this way

Top teams do not lose to Collingwood, Adelaide GWS and draw to teams like hawks. We are now very gettable and coaches have worked us out. So how do we respond? , lets make some adjustments and bring in some fresh faces. IMV Bowey, M Brown, Weeds, Jones Melksham and Daw might be right in the mix next few weeks

Agree we need a few changes this week. Reckon a few need either a rest or a spell at Casey to sort it out

Agree OD. The supporters that complain the most about the Umps are Saints fans. And we know how they’ve performed over the past 30 years. We didn’t get the rub of the green with the umps but it happens and it wasn’t the reason we lost

Max provides some great insights into match play and structures, especially around centre bounces and clearances.

True.

But the same goes for ignoring positive past events and trends.

By that i mean clubs are looking at history to see what are the trends for teams that win flags. if you fail to remember the past you are doomed not to repeat it.

For example, one clear trend, is teams that peak during the home and away almost never win the flag. Look at last year Port and Lions had barnstorming seasons and finished first and second. Neither team even made it to the big dance.

Another is that every flag winning side of the 13 years, bar the hawks in 2013 have hit a flat spot like the one we have.

And remarkably the Hawks were only minor premier in that period to win a flag  was that 2013 hawks team.

Surely those examples are statistical anomalies. They are more likely evidence of trends that should be followed. As we seem to be. At least the flat spots part.

You don't worry when your Melbourne Cup horse finishes mid field second up over 1600 metres.

Love Gawny, but he goes to the same school of spin as Goody and it’s not a good look. We were clearly beaten in a lot of areas on the weekend and I would much rather hear our leader say something like, “we believe in each other, we need our fans to believe in us, but we know that what we did on the weekend and what we’ve produced lately isn’t good enough if we’re serious about challenging.”

First step towards solving a problem is recognising you have one.

Call a spade a spade, we’re in a slump.

On that basis it is the bag. Now I won't celebrate on GF day I promise.

Rubbish the majority were free kicks to the dogs. Blaming the umpires is a poor excuse. The umpire was not kicking for goal. The simple  fact is the Dogs played better and  they have match winners on the day, we did  not. Remember that old one. When the going gets tough the tough get going.

Sorry old dee..  but that was without a doubt one of the worst most biased umpiring against us I have ever seen.

I really suggest you go back and watch some of the calls, non calls and [censored] make up as they go calls we were subjected to in that game. (I have)

Look at how often we got pinned for down the field free kicks with the slightest contact, and have a look how many were paid our way.

Have a look at the how HTB was educated so differently between the two sides.

Have a look how little contact needed to be made at the bottom of a pack for a free to be called against us with non coming our way.

That game was 100% determined by the umpiring. Either they are completely incompetent at their job or their was direction for the dogs to win.

Bringing in fresh faces is the obvious thing to do but Goody is extremely stubborn & I reckon he will pretty much stick fat with the current 22.

No need to be sorry that is your opinion. Because we did not get frees does not automatically mean the ones to the dogs weren't there. I don't believe the umpiring cost us the game.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
