I have just read that Phil Read will be playing for the Geelong VFL team this season. What happened here? Was he not required at Sandy or did he get a better offer from Geelong? Maybe he just didn't want to be associated with Melbourne after being delisted. Does anyone know the full story?

Originally I heard he was going to play in the EDFL, but apparently he somehow knew Cameron Ling and the Cats approached him and Geelong appealed cos he can spend more time down the surf coast.

I remember Ling last year on The Footy Show talking about how he thought Read was unlucky to be dropped at one stage.

It would make sense if they are mates.

Thouht that he announced his retirement after the GF win.

Has he / Geelong dome a Mal Michael / Bummers type deal????

Usually when blokes "retire" it just means from AFL footy, not all footy in general.

Hopefully we wont see an Armstrong out of him now

I can tell you straight out that his decision to play for Geelong is souley based on one thing; he likes to surf.

Armstrong was lucky he is an average player and always will be, like 'wotsisname' who went to Sydney and played in a flag

I think u will find Jolly is a sensational player and one of many mistakes Melbourne has made

I agree it was a mistake however he is not a sensational player, most swans fans blame his poor performance for their GF loss last year, and if he really is that good why would they get Everitt?

Edit: Woohoo, 500 posts!!

Occo, it is these sort of comments that make me wonder whether or not you are an agent provocateur.

Allowing Barassi to go to Carlton - a big mistake.

Jolly to Sydney - yawn.

Ok our ruck ATM is ordinary. Infact i think we have one of the worst ruck players in the leigue. Yes white is great and has been sensational for us for many years but he is older and the limitation of running into the ruck has ruined his game (as he needed a runup due to his height). I cant see Jamar ever being that good and with Jolly we would look very good. Yes jolly left on his own terms so its kinda pointless argument but he is a very good player

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
