I am suitably chastened, although I do feel you are taking on a Mods role and trying to censor what I say. Perhaps you could coach SWYL as it was he who felt the need to reply to an old post that went up prior to me knowing he wasn't permanently banned. You seem to be a nice person and we haven't had any discernible differences previously but as I said SWYL can look after himself and we have a long history of disagreements going back many years until I put him on ignore. He is back there again. This thread has shown me he is the same as ever and I should have known that. Hence the  "if the cap fits" comment. With hindsight I shouldn't have started with that because it's like throwing burley on the water.

Because I am who I am, you don't get off scot free. If you re-read your last line above, doesn't "unlike your good self" sound a bit condescending? Now, I'm not always articulate and get the meaning of words confused from time to time but I'll see if I've got irony sorted. It's ironic that you've chastised me about not PMing and discussing non-footy issues in public.

Wow ?

This guy really thinks this way

Condescending is his middle name…

I don't know about the media etc. I struggle to see us as a serious threat.

You struggled to see us as a serious threat when were 11-1 having just beaten the Dogs and Brisbane.

You'll struggle to see us as a serious threat even if there's a minute to go in the GF and we're up by 200.

I seriously doubt the last one tu. If we make I will assume we have a 50/ 50 chance.

Agreed. It gets a bit tiresome and I have only been here for two days. I honestly do not know why some people follow the team. I get the frustration, the anger, the betrayal etc but people seem to openly welcome it. Strange.

People can have different opinions bags. I have not noticed anything in the Demonland rules that says only deeply positive supporters can state  their thoughts. I find it strange that you think everyone has to share a certain view.

You know, you’re right there. There’ll be totally pessimistic people and total optimistic and a whole lot in between. But ffs it’s such a drain to read these “opinions” right before a match. Save that sh*t for after the match, if at all. Total bloody buzzkill.

I  told you all! This is exactly WHY I feel the way I feel. Completely justified by thinking we won't make top 4 and now just wait for all the media to follow Dr.D and start talking about our chances of coming 5th. Hopefully now you can put your complete blind faith aside and be impartial and see the Mac for what we are. A team that you CAN NOT TRUST.  Go back into your little hole and justify to yourselves all the excuses you can come up with as to why we lost that game. We have lost to 3 poor teams this year with EVERYTHING TO PLAY FOR. (top 4). We have come out flat in most first halves this year and our goal kicking continues to screw us over.  This is yet another example of me going against the grain of popular opinion, analysing our form, our matchups and stating with a high confidence that we won't make top 4.  Feel free to PM your personal apologies.

Kudos to Roy11 and Cyb for agreeing with my sentiments.

Still think we won’t make top 4? Would you rather we lost to 3 top teams like dogs or beat every contender like us.

Welcome Bags. I think this is my big takeaway from being a part of this forum, particularly this year. So many seem desperate for us to fall in a massive hole - so they can say ‘I knew it’, closely followed by ‘of course this would happen to me’. There’s a really strange psychology to some of this thinking and it’s a fascinating insight into how some people approach life. It’s not inherently wrong, just different - but is must be emotionally draining.

Thankfully the players are fiercely competitive, and don’t read forums.

You said numerous times on this forum that we'd lose to Essendon and Port Adelaide and we ended up beating both teams, so it's a bit early for you to say "I told you all."

This is a moment we will reference to others to encapsulate our life circumstances at a given epoch.

People asking ‘Where were you when Kennedy was shot?’ or ‘Where were you when you heard the Whitlam government has been dismissed?’ will now have an even greater historical touchstone to refer to:

’Where were you when old dee started to believe we were a good team?’

I’ve got no idea what this means.

Not only have I re-watched the game, I have re-watched TNF and First Crack, does give pleasure to hear pundits comment on how we have our mojo back.

If you only want what you perceive as positive comments than stay on the MFC site because that is all they print. This is a fan site you get stuff you agree with and other stuff that you don’t.

Caro put dogs, Bris, Geelong and port ahead of us for the flag this week. No other contender has got anywhere us.

Strange analysis isn’t it Koz - given we have beaten them all easily.

As supporters we need to learn not to get sucked in to the media’s short term over-reactions - designed to generate an emotional response + click more articles.

I was going to change it to Max Gawn holding the premiership cup, but that might scare you to death (ala the creepy girl emerging from the television set in The Ring). ??

Honestly ! I would prefer numerous options to the current.

I know what has more responsibility for non believing. It is not the media.

It is half a century of failure, people are too scared to be confident.

I understand and appreciate that there’s negative comments here. It’s the TIMING of some of those posts that I have a problem with. An hour out from the start of a match. Really??? But I guess it doesn’t help that I was testy af at that time. I hardly eat on game day and am a bunch of nerves all day, right up ‘til the final siren

Thank you for explaining, though

Your problem  is not uncommon. I tend to walk around the room while the game is on. Drives my wife nuts. Early comment before she went to bed was “ when are you going back  to watching games live.? “ We have been known to sit in different rooms watching the same game. I really don’t like watching my team on TV.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.
