This game was awful.
West Coast are just cruising into the top 8 on the back of playing at Boo Stadium. Will bother absolutely nobody at the MCG. Can’t stand this club.

Their gone tu, all over for 2021 they are just making up the numbers.

They've only got two top 8 sides left for the year, so their only shot really is to win all of the other 8 games (GWS (away), Adelaide, Fremantle (away), Collingwood, North Melbourne, St Kilda, Gold Coast, GWS again).

It's not going to happen.

You can't "honourably lose" eight times in the first half of the year and expect to make finals.

They have no excuse with their list profile, either. Disastrous.

You have to give them credit for winning that game with the quality of players they had out, on a ground they hadn't won at for 20 years.

We'll see how they go next week vs Richmond at home though. Will be a significantly sterner test than Carlton.

Carlton have several injuries too.
Credit sure but god they are so dull. Offensive jumper. Offensive song. Offensive supporters.

As soon as McKay was subbed out it was game over. Carlton was up to their neck in it until that point.
Adjusting your forwardline mid game is very hard. Especially when your key forward goes down.

I don’t mind the Blues! Rather them win than WCE.

Carlton's current injury list features: Cuningham, C Curnow, Durdin, Gibbons, Marchbank, OMac, McGovern, Philp and Plowman (suspended). Of those there are about three best 22 players: C Curnow, Marchbank and Plowman.

West Coast's current injury list: Allen, Cameron, Duggan, Kelly, Kennedy, McGovern, Shuey, Venables, Winder, Witherden. That's 7 best 22 players and at least 5 of them are better than the three missing Carlton players.

The talent missing from West Coast's side is incomparable to that missing from Carlton's. If it were Melbourne not Carlton, this board would be disgusted.

Umpire 22 is still the worst umpire in the game. Just hopeless.

Freo applying nice pressure.

I take nothing away from their injury list. And Carlton are very ordinary. But I see nothing in West Coast that worries me.

Now that's a different topic.

Right now I'd like our chances against West Coast, although it's still 9 weeks until we play them, and almost all their injured players will be back by then, on current estimates.

Still, their ball movement is the sort that we can defend well, slower and more methodical.

Yeah they are not a quick team or a young team. They can afford to move the  ball slowly because their tall towards are so good in the air.

Freo is so infuriating. They do a lot right and their pressure is excellent. But their ball use going inside 50 is trash.

Brayshaw is their best player along with Mundy. No idea what is up with Fyfe. Done nothing.

Freo are a red hot chance here. Just need to apply some more scoreboard pressure and the crowd might get them home

Melbourne have shown teams how to play the dogs. Libba getting tagged

West Coast have underperformed significantly this year, but they still have one of the most talented lists in the league. If their injury issues ease up I could see them building back some consistency and confidence.

Is he the baby faced one?

Yeah the guy with the blonde hair.

Freo’s kicking inside 50 kills my soul.
Every time they go forward I’m screaming at them to be better. It’s sadly not working

Well the difference in this game is Dogs have a handful of absolute stars like Bont. And Freo can’t do anything forward of the Centre. So yeah.

Watching this is giving me PTSD of we needed Freo to beat the Dogs to make the 8 last year

He’s a shocker.

If Freo butchered the ball 50% less going inside 50 they would be in the 8 easily.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
