Ha Ha, contrary to popular belief MR I do enjoy the end result it is gut wrenching journey that worries not that they ever looked losing that game. Just finished watching the replay.

I found Dermutts "analysis" that, 'aside from 8 min in the first the teams were equal' was a bizarre negative spin to put on it. As we clearly jumped them, then held them to a losing position for the rest of the game... denying them their surges with amazing defence.

Would be a valid spin if it was equal scores and pressure all game, and then we broke them in the last 8 minutes...

I assume that rating is an average across different points in rbe game. Suggests their pressure was better. At least in terms of applied pressure (tackles, referred pressure, one percenters, spoils, smothers etc).

What i doubt it measures is the pressure of looking up and having sfa options to kick forward to.

We cover and spread so well teams are constantly under pressure to try and find a way through, or around us. The dogs are the best in tbe league at doing so. But were all at sea against us.

We will because our structure is so good. Pressure helps, but the way we zone the ground means the opposition simply don't have easy uncontested possessions. And if they do get easy touches, they're not outside our offensive 50.

Me too. He also fails to understand how commentary on the TV is supposed to work. I imagine he's a bit like me at the footy. Constant commentary. He leaves no air for the audience to take the game in. It's a wall of Dermie rambling.

I still remember when he was on an episode of my favourite Australian show ever (Stingers). Again, an egomaniac. And no, he's not a good actor.

As a player Dermie was a champion, as a commentator some what less.

Agree Col, those perfect passages that always gave us hope and that we are "it", if we could do "it" much more regularly, have disappeared.  When we go a bit Hollywood, it often comes unstuck now. They appear to emphasise, keeping plays simple, much less of take "it" on. A few have a licence, such as Hunty and Salem from the half-back (to break the lines) or Oliver with the skills are examples, of reward outweighs the risk. Mostly we are bread and butter, system and plans this season. Such maturity is a beautiful thing.

Not sure  litd if they have tried him forward but with his marking power he could be a weapon.

If I misheard the interpretation you heard then I stand corrected: I didn't watch the whole presentation and I definitely heard a few cheap shots at Melbourne. I was surprised, the reason I brought it up.

It is such an incrediblely stupid analysis. And I use the word advisedly.

Like basketball and soccer, when you have a good lead against a dangerous opposition the last thing tbe dees wanted to do was go fast.

The only chance the dogs had in the second half was a fast game, with lots of goals. Like the blues game where they blues continued to play fast rather than play tempo.

Such smart footy by us. Keep the shape and defensive run. AND slow it down to suck minutes out of the clock.

The goals the dogs kicked in the second half (all game really) were all hard work and against the run of plsy.

And critically the best tbey could do was get 2 in a row (and then only once i think).  And we responded to any goals to keep the four goal buffer.

Which if brerereton bothered doing any work at all, that has been how we have played all season, with the hawks game the only one where we kept the pedal to the medal (and even then that was really more about the hawks completey stopping).

How does that peanut accept his wages every week. Embarrassing

Sparrow has to do his runs and sprints post game to keep his work load at optimum level. So getting him on, can help with a little motivation so do his hard yards.

I've just rewatched a minute or two after the 8 minutes to go mark and I'm confused. The interview I saw this morning began here and I now note it is an over 11 minute interview. THis time around, I found the opposite to what I wrote about above. Sorry, chaps and bonnie lasses.

I agree that he is deluded but not ungracious.  I thought his presser showed he has no clue how to address the Richmond mauling, the mauling last night, 3 poor qtrs against Carlton, and the 1 poor qtr against Port when they got cut up.  He seems to have the attitude that if his mids are being shut down, they’ll get a run on at some stage and kick 8 in a qtr. I’m heartened by that, as it won’t happen in finals against good defensive teams, and as long as Beveridge refuses to admit they have a problem then they won’t be the threat they could be for finals.

Since the days of the Hawks-Demons merger fantasies, Brereton has largely been a strong  critic of the MFC and it might appear that these sentiments still reside somewhere deep inside his current impartiality as a commentator. Perhaps, he sees the current declining trends of the Hawks as an omen to some form of disaster ahead.

However, a couple of years ago, he did at times seem to be more tolerant of the red 'n blue but this has largely disappeared. It's a shame as he is knowledgeable about footy, seems to be a reasonable tactician and game analyst, and certainly (in my mind) has more football credibility than the plethora of TV-type 'footy team experts'.
