For those who can't get through the paywall, here is a summary: Mighty May's might in May might see May might in September.

He has been huge for this club.

Copped his whack early and went about gaining the trust and admiration of the entire club.

I am massive on him

How tough and gutsy to return so quick after that knock. A true leader in the club.

In some ways the way that he brought himself back after his disappointing 1st year with us raises my opinion of him. He was absolutely smashed in the media, he took his lumps and came back the best version of himself.

I have a sinking feeling he might miss the AA team but he’ll surely be in the squad.

As a side note I don’t know what hierarchy they have going at the club but I really hope he would be next picked as captain should Max and Jack be unavailable.

i suspect rick lever is the likely next cab / cap off the rank

There was a fantastic double-page article/interview published in the Sunday Age on 21 July 2019 titled “The Ides of May.” Reading this at the time is what sold me on him. Idk how to find old articles such as this one but if anyone else does I highly recommend it. ❤️?

Forgive my ignorance here, but I've seen Lever called "Rick" a few times now.

Is that his nickname or is it an in-joke I'm not part of?

So he gets in the AA, or doesn't. Exactly who does the AA team play anyway, and would Simon Ggoodwin and Choco release him to play a midweek fixture v New Zealand anyway.

Lever has leadership written all over him. Would be an absolutely awesome captain, but so too would May

Hard choice

May has certainly made the players around him stand up and take note. It's now impossible to imagine us on top of the ladder with Oscar and Frost (thank you for your service) as our backline generals. By the time Max has gone, May (if he's still playing) will be overlooked for age. It will be between Petracca and Lever. Probably CP because defenders aren't glamorous.

It's his nickname within the club ds. They just reckon he looks like someone called Rick.

Thank for that.  Safe to say his opponents get Rick Rolled then!

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
