Better than going to freo. However with aflw and the pre season comp they have already started messing around with the fixture. This is not a good sign of things to come.

Many of the reasons Given will not necessarily be prevalent in 2 mths time as WA and NSW will ( should be) totally birder free as all other states.

YES nothing is in other than proposed print and we know the AFL!!!

But the first 6 weeks are they say in stone !! Barring a Covid breakout in any particular state or city.

The VIC/WA border is reopening on Friday 5th February (as long as there are no new community cases). All of NSW (with the exception of 1 LGA) is a currently a Green Zone.

All this of course can change at any time.

So Carlton get to open AFL, AFLW and the AAMI seasons in prime time.

They are still the AFL's favourites when it comes to fixturing to maximise sponsor exposure and member interest!

Jealous.

Some will say we need to win games to get better fixtures.  True.  But for years we have done a lot better than Carlton in all forms of the game...

If there is no virus out in the community then it shouldn't be a problem. If there is then we won't be going to any live footy for a while.

The only silver lining is that these games won’t be on channel 7.

Whilst I agree that the opening game of every season being Richmond vs Carlton is absurd, I also think it’s equally ridiculous that Carlton want still want this fixture.

So much pressure and spotlight on a young team that, every year for some time, gets smashed by the Tigers.  All their positive media and membership promotions go out the window by quarter time round one.

The irony is that they are not THAT young!!!!

Contrary to most on here LH I don’t mind Carlton. Now here is the background to that statement.

I grew up in Bendigo and played football there in the sixties and early seventies. At that time the BFL was in Carltons zone and they did very  Well with players from that area. The Blues were always my second team, I played for Eaglehawk who were the blues as well so I liked Carlton, in that period they could always be relied upon the beat the Pies in games that really mattered. I had lots of Collingwood supporting friends so seeing them lose to the Blues gladdened my heart. It did not hurt of course that RDB was the coach . As has often been the case in that period the Dees could not beat time with a stick. The only time I hate the Blues is when they play us. No MFC and I would be a blues supporter.

I have said elsewhere that WA have an election the week before the main season starts. You can bet the WA premier will be tough about virus lockdowns till then. Don’t assume anything about WA teams playing anywhere until after the Election.

That is a very large lining BBP. I watch 7 without sound. They annoy me more than the team we are playing.

Being of the generation when it was VFL I dislike all Vic teams.

My whinge was about the AFL consistently favouring a team:  unsuccessful Carlton.  There other AFL  favourite to promote is unsuccessful Essendon which I put into the 'loathe' category!

Can't wait till the WA election is over - we might get a touch of sanity to their border controls...but won't hold my breath!

That’s good news indeed! Like trainspotters, I think there’s something not quite right about birders. ?

And it will happen again this year, except they aren't exactly a young team anymore

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
