Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Player number sequence

Let me start by apologising if this topic has been discussed before. If so, I'm happy for the mods to delete it or merge with the earlier discussion.

I noticed that the Melbourne Storm Grand Final jumper had players numbers on the front. See picture below. You can see #163, #167 and #119 at the bottom. I assume that this is each player's individual number in sequence since the Storm was created. (If it's not can someone please enlighten me as to what the numbers mean.)

Is there a list of every Melbourne player in sequence going back to 1858? If so, would you like to see each player wear that number on their jumper? If it's possible, I would. I also think it's an added bit of marketing which the club could make use of. It would make Robert Flower's number 2 jumper different from Stephen Tingay's and Nathan Jones; Ron Barassi's 31 different from Paul Wheatley and Bailey Fritsch.

would be pretty cool on the back of the colar even if not visible to the cameras at least for the player to kinda keep in touch with their cap, cam mooneys forearm tattoo i think has some reference to his number and career at the cats and in cricket it is a really prominent part of being in the team. virat kohli and many others have tattoos referencing it.

Thanks for the link.

Can someone check this for me? When scanning the list of players I noticed a name change before my eyes. Jack Connole changed to Jack Axxhole (spelled with two of the letter s, rather than x). Does it do the same for everyone? If so, does anyone know who manages the list and can correct this from happening. It's obviously disrespectful although I assume the tech wizard who did it thinks he/she's just being funny.

Connole played 14 games (for just one win) in 1914 and 1919 and was our 312th player. And was a very short player at 163 cm

I love that page.

It tells me we once had someone wear number 59, which I never knew.

It also tells me we've had about 25 players get to 200 games, and another 35 to 150 games, and about 100 more to 100 games out of 1358 players.

So historically 2% play 200 games, 4.5% get to 150 and 12% to 100.

When we rip on players like Omac or ANB for being "average footballers", we forget they have played 80+ games for us, and in the 15% most capped MFC players ever. They might not be superstars, but they have been successful players for us.

That would be the esteemed Andrew Dale in 1986.  Surprisingly, that's not the highest number worn by a Demon.

Who wore number 67 in a senior game and, for bonus points, what was the reason?

Easy, Jeff Garlett to commerate the 50th anniversary of Indigenous Australians getting to vote. Steven May wore the same number for GC in the same game, and Nev wore #50.

Good pick-up. And it also explains why the player above Connole also has his name changed from Les Irwin to The Irwin.

So, not so much disrespectful behaviour as I had thought, but, instead, educated humour. I should have thought nothing less on a database about Melbourne players.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
