Francis was originally recruited to play for Melbourne but played only 1 game before moving to the Brisbane Bears (22 games) and finally to Port Adelaide (86 games).

Horne-Francis is a certainty to end up at North Melbourne.

Pity we let Francis go far too early. He was obviously a talented footballer as a teenager when drafted and needed patience in his development. Port Adelaide proved that to be the case when he played for them later in his career.

Anyway, they don’t have a stepfather/stepson rule in place so it wouldn’t have helped us anyway.

Melbourne isn’t the only club that has a highly thought of Next Generation Academy prospect. The Saints have two good ones in Mitch Owens and Marcus Windhager who are likely to be just  outside the top 20 in the draft. Owens was a late call-up for July’s ‘Challenge’ match between Vic Metro and Vic Country at Windy Hill and produced an “outstanding” game that didn’t go unnoticed. The 190cm wingman and half-forward logged 29 disposals, took seven marks and kicked a goal. Windhager is a midfielder/forward who has a basketball background. Then there’s Fremantle who have a young key forward in their sights -

If it turns out that we draft Taj Woewodin as a potential addition to our midfield stocks then I think our next priority would be to find a key forward to develop over the next few years in light of the fact that TMac and BBB are in their late 20s and Weideman is still not producing. To that end, it wouldn’t surprise if we traded up to get a pick in the mid to late first round to get such a player.

Not this year but 2023, Eagles are going to get a beauty in Bailey Banfield.

Seen him over a few years show some signs as an outside player, my boy played against Scotch last week and Bailey was in the guts and just dominated the clearances and game. He’s put on some good size, super clean with his hands and made some really good decisions in traffic and looked very poised under heat.

His younger brother Sam is the same age as my youngest but their sides have never crossed paths, he has been talked of for a couple of years as very talented and better than his older brother. Think he’s 2025 draft

Ashley Mcintosh’s boy Fletcher also played for Scotch, good size, but not much above average on display

Jacob Van Rooyen - Was predicted to go top 5 last year. 

Jye Amiss - 47.11 this year

Jack Williams - 29.19 this year

I’ve heard some good things about Amiss. Can our WA track watchers comment on whether he could bring that sort of goal kicking prowess into the AFL?

Early days in this thread, I had Jacob Van Rooyen at 8 in my draft top 10. He’s gone out of favour over the year but this boy has the goods to be a very good KPF forward. If we can trade our way into the first round and he’s available, he would be worth the consideration.

My information is that this draft will primarily be a midfielder’s draft with some very good footballers in the top dozen or so. Obviously, Horne-Francis and Daicos are the two obvious prospects for top honours but there are a number of other potential quality players in that mix who could be celebrated in the near future as midfield guns. If we were to trade up to get into the first round of the draft, I hope we have our eyes on a good running midfielder. You can never have too many of them.

Could that be impacting North Melbourne's reported interest in Weideman? They. may have enough young midfielders already and need a mature KPF. This may spice up our trade period.

Surely, Weideman puts himself up for trade?

My youngest played against Jacob’s younger brother Benji a few weeks ago, what a player. He was playing up a year and running off halfback hitting forwards up with 35-40m darts

There were two NAB Boys League games at the weekend comprising Round 16. These are the top five points scorers from the round. I think in the circumstances, there’s every chance that the competition might be nearing a close as far as the regular season is concerned.

Van Rooyen has spent most of the season playing PSA Football. He’s played the last 2 games for Claremont Colts kicking 6 & 5, which would be a big reason why he’s moved in.  PSA finishes Thursday so I would expect him to move up the draft boards now

Those forthcoming national Championships are going to be really important now that the extended lockdown has come into force because it’s unlikely that the players from metro clubs will get a further chance to impress. Players like our very own Mac Andrew who looks a borderline top 20 draftee based on where he features in this team will only be seen again if he makes it to the championships.

I watched Scotch vs Hale yesterday in the last game of the season Erasmus plenty of the footy playing in the middle but upstaged by one to watch for 2022, Mitch Barron.

Absolute physical beast in the middle, won’t be a tall mid or endurance beast, more of your inside bull. Broke his ankle early in the year and only returned for the last 3 games. No school for him next year so will watch his form at Claremont over September and next season.

Another Sorrento Duncraig boy who I’ve watched come through and looks to hurt opponents in a similar way to the young Selwood and Viney who parents hoped wouldn’t tackle their kids. I rate him higher than Erasmus, although Neil has the ability to hurt opposition on the scoreboard.

It had to happen sooner or later and it comes via AFL Draft Central’s Michael Alvaro in his article about players in the top 10 mix. Check out his comment on North Melbourne’s likely #1 pick and his speculation that the Roos might consider trading the pick to end up with … who?

"With Adelaide likely lurking for Horne, there has again been talk that North may look to trade down the order, much like there was last year. Smooth moving Sandringham Dragons midfielder Finn Callaghan could be another option for the Roos, as well as versatile tall Mac Andrew".

WA’s Jacob Van Rooyen was very impressive in the Under 19 championships game on Saturday. Known more as a KFP in the WAFL Colts competition, he played at CHB against SA and starred. He would be on most team’s’ wishlists in the first round after the first four or five picks are sorted out.

He’d be a project player but we could be patient over the first 2 years.

Mac ain't dropping out of the 20. That's a given. Recruiters are all over this kid and wouldn't even be surprised if he goes top 10.

I know. I was trying to be optimistic. We get a quality NGA Prospect and the wise idiots at AFL Land change the rule.

One of Dimma's rules is any player taken first round needs to be ready to play the next year.

Cal Twomey has dropped his August form guide and has Mac Andrew sitting in 9th place.
