With Bruce our main man at # 31 you can understand why many in the media don't rate our flag chances. And why is it that we don't seem to be able to produce any top 10 players?

Posted

We have only 3 players in the top 50. All in the bottom half. The Grandfinalists of the last two years have 2 players each in the top 10.

The pleasing thing about that is that with our young group of players if we can get a few to really emerge we could get there. I would suggest that White and Neita will not improve but Brock, Col, Bate, CJ, Bartram, Jones etc may the the top 10 of the future. They all have heaps of potential.

Has Dunn got what it takes to be a top forward? Will Newton step up in the next couple of years.

Given that we have made the finals 3 years in a row and are tipped to do it again we have done so with an even list without the top 10 types who tend to break open finals. Not a bad effort.

Perhaps Bruce, TJ and Green can step up. Or have they peaked at 26 or so??

One thing is FOR SURE to win a premiership we need a couple of players to emerge from the group and dominate.

Col has heaps of potential but cannot get his body right. Brock is maade of the top 10 stuff. Can some of the others step up??

Who is most likely to emerge?

What players can make the difference?

Will it be next year, this year?

No coach can win a premiership without those real top guns in the side.

CAC has spent several years building this list. Now lets see how far they can be developed by the club.

Sheahan's list means nothing, for one, the guy is infatuated with Joel Bowden. Enough said really.

McLean will be in the top 20 by the end of the year (given no injuries), I bet my entire shoe collection on it. :D

It's one man's opinion. Put up your own list and see some of the comments that role in. And it's a great talking point.

If Melbourne win the flag this year we'll have 4 players in the top 25.

IMO Travis's year last year was very underrated. He averaged over 20 possessions a game and as we know, he uses them. Davey is overrated IMO. Little output, flashy contributions and far to much weight given to his "near run downs".

Here's what Sheehan wrote about us in the AFL 2007 magazine...

"The Demons look top-four material and could be the best of the Victorian teams. They will regain Moloney (seven games last year) and have an emerging midfield gun in McLean. Neitz must stay fit and productive, and big years from Bruce, Davey and Johnstone would be handy."

Sounds about right.

And where is Ben Cousins huh???

Ben Cousins was excluded because of the doubt over his playing career. Had he been sprung one week later, Brock would've missed out on making the top 50.

Griffen and Cross ahead of Brock

What a joke

fletcher and lucas.... sums up the quality of the list.

bowden is great for your dream team and thats about it, as far as him as a backman.

i think they were the only bleedingly stupid ones, some are too high, some too low but they always will be.

Sandilands at 14 is, well, entertaining to say the least.

I've put $10 on Sandilands to win the Brownlow at $81. Apart from Brock, ($61) my only bet.

I think Burgoyne is value too at $31(I think).

I reckon it is the best list Sheahan has put together for a few years.

I'm sure there are plenty who would have Colin Sylvia and Daniel Bell in, going by the exuberant urging going on here.

Posted

How can you take this list seriously when only half-a-dozen backmen are deemed good enough to make it. For a supposed senior journalist he's taken a very blinkered and puerile view of the relative worth of players. He should know that games are won just as much by defenders as mid-fielders and goalkickers.

Posted

The media hates us.... We all know this already, but I can now see why blokes like Sheehan and the likes rate the Bulldogs so highly when they have 5 blokes in the top 50 and Cooney doesn't even get a mention!

Similar to Brock, but not good enough to get in over Griffin??

That list is crap!

Sandilands at 14 is, well, entertaining to say the least.

I'm not saying he is as talented as others on the list but he is probably the one player besides Brown and Judd that every coach wants on their list.

agree with fan davey's done nowhere near enough to be in top 50

The fact that Davey is ahead of McLean shows the list is flawed.

In fact, as a few have said, Davey is not top 50 material.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
