Thereโ€™s very little strength shown at the very top of the club as shown by allowing the situation whereby we were the club to play Sydney and Freo within 4 days up in Cairns just 5 days after playing in Alice Springs and being one of only two clubs not to have a bye during several weeks of football frenzy. Eddie would have gone down kicking and screaming rather than allow his club to hit the wall and miss a finals series that way.ย

Hang on. This is football operations, almost certainly falls under the remit of the FD. You can't blame the board or the administrative leadership for the FD's failings on planning these trips.

The distinct impression I got from Goodwin in his post presser after the Sydney debacle was that he was [censored] off with our management of it. If you go back to that press conference, when he's asked whether there was anything in this, he hesitates and then goes on to say something along the lines of all teams have had to deal with challenges this year.

Extending his contract on the basis of ONE good year was idiotic.

Maybe after 3 succesful seasons ok.

Also crazy to give a solid player like Harmes a 5 year deal.

especially as 2018 was a strange year that came together late.ย

By the time Goody had re-signed for 3 years at the club the "Is Goodwin the right guy...." was 97 pages long.

Show me a team that had anything near that sort of a challenge.

I agree that footy stays within the footy department... except the board signs off on the footy department appointments. They gave Goodwin his contract and his extension, same with Pert and Mahoney. So they do take some level of blame here.

We are like any other business with shareholders. Someone has to be accountable for poor return on investment. We are the worst return on investment business going around. No return in over 50 years!

Where are our dividends?ย

Many may not agree but the Roos appointment may not have been such a great move.

We were so keen to get him that he came totally on his terms,ย the big one being his expiry date.

It was a great move. We were a VFL club in an AFL competition with no money, no credibility, no nothing. We had to get him, or someone of his stature, at any cost.

Loved Jackson but I think he had tunnel vision in the pursuit of Roos and it maybe costing us now.

More power to him; without that appointment we wouldn't have a club now.

Time for someone / group to stand for election. But like usual we will all be to polite.

I'd actually argue we've had too many factions and too many people trying to rock the boat at the wrong times and then not knowing when to act at the right times.

Not quite

The FD should have realised we had an issue and elevated it to a club spokesman.

Clearly flying in on match day to play an entrenched club was worthy of public comment.

Think how McGuire or Kennett would have dealt with it

Oh, don't get me wrong. I completely agree with the idea that they are responsible for the shortcomings of the FD, but for micro operations, I don't think we can blame them at that level. But it could become part of an equation that they have to answer for.

I think thereย should be a blow torch on the club as to why there was no external review done of the FD last year. This is something I remain strong on and I really don't see why Mahoney was allowed to review his own department's operations. Sure, he should have some input into the review, but it needed to be an external party. Mahoney had a massive conflict interest, with his position tied to the success of the FD and equally its failures andย shortcomings.

Look, totally, this is how the media works in this country. Not saying it's right, but it constantly picks and chooses who to shine the light on and who to leave alone.

Doesn't mean this particular light isn't warranted.

As is often the case, Wilson is not really wrong but you have to wonder why the obvious and inevitable scuffling at one club approachingย the end of a mostly disappointing season is worthy of a feature article by the Chief Football Writer?

Someone of that stature definitely.

...but maybe someone who was going to stick around for the long haul.

Not put a time limit on it.

Maybe we were so focussed on Roos we overlooked someone else.

Maybe we should have got a longer commitment from Roos or moved on to another target if he couldn't/wouldn't give it.

Very sad to see a woman who claims to support women, be the puppet of a group of white priviledge men,who think that their money and colour gives them a right to terorize the people trying to do a their job. This article is full of falsehoods designed to cause distress and disruption. It is highly defanitrory and herย sources ( which she basically reveals ) in all her articles about melbourne, if you read closely you will see a pattern. nothing in this article is true at all. What is true is that she has shown her cards, that is, her premise as a sport journalist is based on pushing the agenda for a small group of white privilegde men, who think they are entitled to impose themselves into footy clubs for their own egos, whilst sitting in portsea and sorento. Shame on you Caro, this group of men and yoursself are not melbourne. There a 40,000 plus members that are just as important , rich or not, no matter wehere they come from, we are all ย important. Footy is not for just a small group of white men, who are you are matey with, it belongs to everyone.ย ย

We had trouble finding a replacement and got sold a pup by a few inside the club. The story may never come out but there are troubles with the appointment of Goodwin.

Yes. But we didn't have that luxury. "Hobart Devils" was starting to sound promising at AFL hq

She's not a sports writer. She's a gossip writer and her natural home is on the scandal pages, but there's not much call for or interest in sports there.
