olisik 4,060 Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 With an inexperienced GM at the helm for the last 7 years it’s time to get some experience in. He has received multiple promotions despite being one of our match day coaches during 186 loss. It’s time to go Mahoney. Mahoney was picked up as an assistant coach for 2008. He served as a forward line coach In September 2011, Mahoney was appointed Melbourne's Football Manager after Mark Neeld was appointed as senior coach. In September 2013, Mahoney was appointed Melbourne's General Manager - Football Operations by CEO Peter Jackson. 1 Quote
Ted Lasso 19,586 Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 I have been a supporter of JM for a while and generally think he's been pretty good but it's becoming obvious the club needs some serious change. if we could get Neale Balme or Geoff Walsh in for that role that'd be great, if not i'd be offering it to Alan Richardson. 1 Quote
DeeSpencer 26,675 Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Someone from Fenway Sports Group, the owners of the Boston Red Socks and Liverpool. We need to find an edge on the competition and stop being a poor, smaller, dumber version of every other club. Analytics is that edge. There's going to be assistant coaches out there who will just about work for free given the money crunch. So we can find coaches. We can hire one just to work with a new GM and teach them the game if they don't know anything about it. In fact it's probably better they don't because they won't have any preconceived biases. Quote

He was also responsible for the recruiting of Jake Lever which hasn't paid off. He's first on the chopping block IMO Quote
Pickett2Jackson 3,904 Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 (edited) Whos left over from 186? Mahoney, Jones? Anyone else? They all need to be culled. Edited September 7, 2020 by Pickett2Jackson 1 Quote

Always happy to hide in the shadows to when things don’t go well. Edited September 7, 2020 by olisik Quote

AFL isn't a big enough business for Fenway. Would love them to own both my football teams though. Quote

Yep...sadly Josh Mahoney needs to go too. Been in the position as Football Manager of General Operations for a while now. A total clean out of the football department means out with the old amd in with the new. This needs to be a well thought out process. We need to recruit the best of the best. i highly doubt Neil Balme would leave Richmond to come back to us. Not after we sacked him as coach in 1997. I am under the assumption there is still bad blood there. I would go all out for Brad Scott the former North Melbourne coach to be Football Manager of General Operations. Otherwise, someone from a recent Premiership winning club that has a good culture which is also ruthless and demands high standards. Alan Richardson could also be moved to that role if he is shifted from being Director of coaching Whoever we choose, they need to be a good quality football person who has a hunger to help us win a Premiership at the Demons. Good thinking but the success of FSG and their model is that they own the club and bring in the right people who know the game back to front for these positions. We do need to find the edge though. He's been a disaster from day one with his first major effort the signing and anointing of SG into a rediculous extension that has committed this club to 3 further years of failing. This club has stuffed up its coaching selections/contracts on plenty of other occasions but this ranks up there with the best of the worst decisions it's witnessed. The fish rots from the head. Quote
layzie 34,528 Posted September 7, 2020 Posted September 7, 2020 Let's get someone from NASA. They could put a man on the moon quite easily I'm sure reaching the 8 would be a piece of cake for them. 1 Quote

Time heals wounds Rusty. Plus the club has changed internally since his days at the club with fresh faces etc. What hasn't changed is the culture as a whole. It sucks. Quote

If he has the fire to still do it - it would be great to have him back Quote
