A trade with Melbourne could only involve either McLean, Johnstone or Bruce or some sort of combination of these guys plus picks.

We obviously don't want to trade McLean so that leaves the other two. Perhaps TJ and Bruce alone might do it, who knows, but it would depend on some other factors, ie whether Judd is prepared to leave them for nothing ie preseason draft and obviously if he actually decides to leave in the first place.

You're on the right track there IMO. It would have to be our best players and those with some years left. Those 3 would have to be in the equation and I agree that McLean is the only untouchable on the list. Also needs to be highly paid players to free sufficient salary cap space - it'll take the best part of $1M/yr. West Coast have no choice if Judd says I'll go into the PSD if you don't accept a reasonable offer from one of my preferred club(s).

I'm not saying he's worth it and I'm not saying he's not, but this is what you are looking at:

Johnstone + Bruce

Johnstone/Bruce + Bell/CJ + 1st pick (hopefully in double figures)

WHICH IS Y I SAID IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN

About two Judd contracts ago I remember being addressed at a Demonland/Demonology meeting by Danny Corcoran and he told the story of how Chris Judd (who originally came from East Sandringham) had wandered across to watch Melbourne training at the TBO during his vacation period. The feeling was that he might end up back in Melbourne some time and might favour the Demons who he supported as a kid.

Ahh, to dream.

Anyhow, I'm sure that between now and the day when he signs his next contract, there are going to be countless threads and posts on this story and most of them are going to be a waste of time and space.

Has anyone here picked up on the fact that he is out of contract at the end of 2007?

It doesn't matter what West Coast demand, he can walk to whoever is number one in the PSD if he wants.

They will want to get something for him because he's the most highly sort after player in the competition.

No one will give up their three best players for him.

I have a feeling money won't be the driving factor here, he knows he's assured a career in whatever he wants when football is done, this isn't a Nick Stevens situation.

If he wants to come to us, fantastic, but we won't have to give up a host of our best to get him - sure there'll be a cost, probably a steep one - but won't be near the McLean+TJ+Sylvia+eight first round picks level.

That's partly true, if he insists on going into the PSD or trade him WC must do it.

But have you heard of "the market"? Teams will bid for him, there'll be an auction and the winning bidder will have to pay heavily.

It will never happen however this is who i think we should trade for him:

Picks 1 + 2, Green + Yze + Miller + Jones + Sylvia + Wornock

I dont want to loose the picks, Jones or Wornock but happy to loose Yze, green, miller and sylvia...but west coast wouldnt want

Judd would be nice but Brocky is shaping as being just as productive long term.

Occo : What are you saying here?

YOU WOULD BE HAPPY TO LOSE GREEN

Try watching the footy a bit closer, Greeny is a star.

Agree. Judd has WCE over a barrel. If he walks to the PSD, WCE lose so much in a marquee player and heavy compensation that Judd will attract.

I would be gobsmacked if WCE let the matter meander such that Judd went to the PSD.

And you can forget some of the offers of any line ball MFC players (eg Yze or Miller) in the deal. They would be not in the running nor of any interest to WCE. They are no trade value.

Brock would have to be sensational to reach Judd. He's good but I dont think that good. And that's no crticism of Brock. He is very good.

Back you on Green. Earned his stripes last year and despite the tripe from others was often hard and selfless at the contested ball.

we only get him if he nominates it is us he wants to come to. then WC negotiate with us, we play our best hand, if not Judd walks into the PSD.

We only get a crack at him if he does not re-sign with WCE.

Judd would want to establish that MFC can and will be able to offer a suitable deal to WCE before nominating us. He will have back up clubs if it cant be Melb Unless he would want to go to wooden spooner he wont go to the PSD.

WCE could not afford to lose so much because of pigheadedness.

its between melc.col.carl from what i heard and with buckley retiring there going to have big money to get him, still a talent like this doesnt come around much

Judd has to go to the PSD and one of those Clubs must finish last and have money to spare.

What can any of those sides entice WCE with and Judd to play for them?

You've got 2 look at what west coast need. They need KPF and who has a player that isnt really needed in our side? Melbourne. This player is Millar, Young, strong can play CHF (not very will) but has potential. West coast would take him. But they would also need some1 else such as a midfielder/forward, found in green. This is not wanted but west coast would want a solid midfielder with goal kicker abilty. Also our 1st draft pick then we may have struck a deal.

If melbourne want a premeirship then they would not give up brock mclean or any other vital player that is neccerary for a premeirship.

Yeah, West Coast need another Ashley Hansen.

Judd isn't going anywhere in any case. All he did was decide not to sign a deal right now. It's a smart move. He might increase his value with another brownlow, and even if he doesn't, he's still not going to lose value. Plus the article also reported that he had an off-period after he signed his last contract. Maybe he just needs some kind of motivation to keep himself at his peak (such as having to continue to impress before any future contract negotiation). Or maybe he is just superstitious. They gave him the captaincy to ensure he stayed there. The captain of a club does not leave. I can't think of any who have, but if anyone has a list, please post it.

We can dream and dream all we like, but it aint gonna happen.

Hey west coast are all [censored] and on drugs they wont know who there buying!

The only 1 that I can think of off the top of my head that suits the Judd issue is Barassi. Roos & Carey were another 2, but those were under different circumstances.

I reckon the Hawks would be very well placed to make a play with Lance Franklin and the host of early pick players they have accumulated in the past 3 years.

WC are thin in the ruck particularly now that Gardiner is gone. Cox, then Seaby then nothing. Brisbane would be very well placed to get involved in a 3-way with Charman and McDonald established and Cameron Wood and Leuenberger in the mix.

Who would u prefer, green or Judd? I would prefer Judd

Green isnt going anywhere. and bruce isnt going anywhere. Bruce is worth more than brock people i hate to tell u. and i think he will be the next captain of the MFC.

judd wont come to melbourne because we would lose to much, unless like poeple have said judds club of choice is melbourne and only melbourne.

we should stick to having a crack at wells in 2008

I'm not sure what WCE need but u can be sure that they will be looking at our young future stars in McLean, Bate and Jones and a rising star such as Rivers. It will certainly be a media circus when the end of the year comes!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
