No room for Yze in round 1?

Adem Yze's pre-season form has been even worse than pathetic.

Surely his consecutive game streak is now over? There is no way Daniher can justify selecting him for round 1 vs the Saints.

Bate, Jones, CJ and Bell will all definitely play.

There is no room for Yze. I wouldn't even have him as an emergency.

How can you 'hate' anyone who plays for you club? Hate is a very strong word, and to use it against our captain, and games/goals record holder, is really quite disrespectful.

Also, I doubt Daniher really cares how you, or any of the supporters feel about Yze. If he did, Yze would have been dropped, maybe even traded, years ago.

I really do not see a reason to play Yze in Round 1. St. Kilda is not a weak side, so there is no chance he'll rock up with a lazy 5 goal performance against an average team  .

There are plenty of young guys dying for a well-earned opportunity to play senior footy, and going on pre-season form, Yze hasn't earnt a spot.

If we're going to be a strong, unrelenting side in 2007, we must start by being ruthless in our own backyard. Dropping Yze is my last hope of waking him up... nothing else has helped, and he is well and truly out of chances this time around. The most frustrating thing for me, is that the team has made a conscious effort to improve their mental strength, hunger and willingness to get the ball in 2006, and everyone but Yze changed their game even in the smallest of ways (you only need to look at Green for evidence). I don't get why Yze should have a different set of team rules to follow. He is not above the team, and for me, he doesn't make the team either.

I'd like to second that. Occo, you are NOT a fan of MFC if you can criticise DN in the way you have. You've been at it for months now, take your snide little comments, and indulgent teenage opinions, leave, and never come back. You are not contributing to this site. Run along...

As for Ooze, I've been a vocal supporter of his for a long time, and it's been getting harder and harder. Unless he's BOG next week, ND is going to look a fool if he selects him. It would most likely [censored] off Adem, but it will send a good message to players like Buckley, CJ and other who would most likely be denied a spot if Ooze got a game. That is, we're more serious about trying to win a flag than a player's conecutive games record. I've a feeling a similar thing is happening with Byron. If they give him the first few rounds of the season in the reserves to get fit, then we won't have to carry him during the season proper. Media will have a field day if he misses matches, but again it'll send the right message to the playing group. Train and work hard, and you'll get selected. Rest on your laurels as a consequence of having a good reputation and see you later.

It's pretty simple really, the upside to dropping Yze for round 1 far outweighs the downside. It'll be interesting to see if Neale has the guts to do what is necessary, assuming AY plays similarly next week.

I am certainly no apologist for Yze, but you've picked three blokes in Pickett, Ward and Robbo that would in my view would fall into the same category.

And Holland can play CHB so well cant he. Jesus

Look i dont like Neitz because i think he doesent derserve being our club champion. Its a personal thing. Australia are a democracy. I love the MFC, hence my room filled with their items, my phone being MFC ringtone, pledging money for every win etc. I think its good not to like some players and at least im honest. There are some peoiple on here who have said they hate miller but all u can do is focus on me. I dont like Miller. I dont like Yze and i dont like Neitz. Although i dont like Neita, he is vital to out team, hence in my best team. Without him we would be stuffed. However I dont think he deserves to be our leading game player. I like every other player and I can say a number of positive things about the team - however its a little hard when we have been pretenders and at least im telling the truth...somthing many of u would be thinking. If u want to persercute me for my feelings or opinions then do so but we are in a democracy. I love the MFC....even though i havnt been a supporter for long as i hated any sport before 2001. I also support the hawks and lions...if that makes me a bad sport then so be it. Melbourne will always be my favourite team however their will often be players i dont respect. Remember im not the only person who hates one of our players. Just read the Miller trates if u must or the Nick Smith.

I don't know why I'm bothering, but here goes...

You say Neitz doesn't deserve to be our leading game player, but what does that even mean?

He's played the most games for the MFC, hence he holds the record, hence he deserves it. You say he is vital to our team, thereby proving that he deserves to get a game each week. This is how he earnt himself the title you realise. It's a very straight forward thing.

Everyone has their favourites and their least favourites, it's only natural, but your reasoning for not respecting Neitz doesn't make any sense.

I met you at a footy function last year....thought you were a "normal" supporter until you cracked it and left because we got beaten. Don;t like your comments about our leader and other team mates.......maybe you should go and follow either the Hawks (seeing you like them ) or better still another code, soccer/ rugby, who cares ......... but not footy !!!!!! and especially not the MIGHTY DEMONS

How dare u say that. Every supperter in the building got angry with our performance. At least i wasnt one of the guys who smashed into the bathroom. Im being honest and giving my personal opinion. I never signed a contract on here saying i would be 100% behind each player. I speak my mind. U dont have to agree with what i say. For all i care u can think im an idiot...which u do. I can speak my mind. Im a dees supporter and if u dont want me to be then thats ur issue not mine. I am NOT someone who is going to lie and not speak my mind. As said, many supporters were angry with our perfoirmance...many choose to go out for a smoke...others chose to go to the betting area...others chose to smash the bathroom door and I left the group and sat on my own which is how i deal with a dismal performance which was shown. And how do u classify "normal"...someone who goes and bets money when we loose...someone who smokes fags. Give it a break. Im not going to appoligise. I dont like neitz and i have expressed why. I didnt expect people to agree with me but as i said ITS A DEMOCRACY and a chat room. Y is there a need for a room like this if we cant expose our feelings or opinions.

I follow the hawks very slightly and Brissy as i grew up in Brisbane. I made a decision to follow the Dees and will continue to follow them. Im not the only person who has issues with our players (ie Miller trates....look at any).

So have issues with what i say but its a democracy. Whos to tell me whats normal and whats not. Thats all I have to say...i dont expect u to change ur mind but i guess thats ur problem at the end of the day. I suggest u go and live in Iraq or Iran...where we would all have to agree with whatever u say hey.

Getting back onto the Yze topic .... based on his current form, and his form from last season, there is absolutely no way he is deserving a spot in the team. I would have Dunn, C. Johnson, Bell, Jones & Bate all ahead of him at this stage. No doubt, at his best he is a match winner, but at his worst ... he is wasting a spot in the team. Unfortunately, the days where he becomes a match winner seem to be behind him.

if yze doesnt line up for our round 1 team , i wont be rocking up to the game.

CJ, Dunn, bell?

no chance

jones has proven his worth but i cant see him takin yzes spot tho i wont be surprised if he is included in the team.

ur additude towards Yze is just as bad as u think his additude towards football is.

u are all pathedic if u think he doesnt deserve a spot in our team.

he has proved himself on many occasions. he is a veteran an he will deliver.

just like id never like to see neitz dropped from our side id never like to see Yze dropped from our side. HE Has been a Captain of the MFC. does he really have to prove him self in a pre season game tho honestly? lets see the first few rounds shall we.

OCCO u are dead wrong buddy if u come on here and try to insult our captain, u are going to cop it back... everyony has the right to an opinion but in ur case u should be smart enough to keep it to ur self.

the person that started this thread loved him enough to have his screen name after him.

how quickly people can get of the bandwagon.

Im not going to appoligise as i said. Its a democracy...therefor u all have the right to bag me too and think im an idiot. I respect that. Im just stating my opinion and ill stick by that. Im not a fan of neitz and i know 4 other mates of mine...3 of which are in their 40's and MCC members who hate him 2 hence im not the only one. Thoes who have an issue with it thats fine....i respect that and remember its a chat site. U will come across people who u dont agree with. Get over it....and look at the more important things. I cant see how me commenting on Neita is any different than thoes who bag Yze or Miller but im too tired to go into that.

Occo can you not put Neita and Miller on a same breath (even yze), please you're embarrassing yourself... trust me its totally and utterly different.

If you've watched the Dees since 2001 then you should know that many of the captain's performances speak for itself.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
