Might want to re-look at that title, chook.

Yeh coz he won’t win a popularity contest due to setting the bar too high.

Played his best game since not being captain. His football will probably flourish without the responsibility.

Meanwhile the skipper was well below his best. I’d say that knee injury had something to do with his lacklustre performance.

Clearly our best player, fit and leads from the front.

No to captaincy if that is the footy he can produce without responsibility. Max is our captain.

We should not have a captain. It's been a burden for everyone who has taken the responsibility.

Hell, even the tag of 'future captain' has been too much of a burden for several over the years.

Give it to Spargo, isn’t going to make him any worse! ?

He played like I said I hoped he would play when he lost the co-captaincy. Very impressive  and gave a 100% though still lacking in disposal skills.

Max has been captain for 1 game and there is this thread. Silly.

Wait so one good game and we're saying he should be captain? Max has been outperforming him in that respect consistently for seasons.

Also not sure if others watched the postgame interview. Was so refreshing to hear from an articulate, honest and mature captain who was really clear and realistic with his understanding of where we're at and expressed this well. Jack was never able to do this.

In my opinion one of the reasons JV played so well is the fact that 'the shackles are off' & he's not burdened with the captaincy role.

Let a more mature person in Max take care of the captaincy duties & let Jack go about playing footy......when that happens.

Jack played much better without the weight of captaincy. It's a shame he wasn't joined by the rest of the team, as a whole.

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Saturday Night’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
