Have the boys been training this week?  Or, just resting on their laurels after their big win on the weekend?

Or, are all our track watchers exhausted?

The silence has been deafening!

The boys (the players not the Trackwatchers) have been out in the community visiting schools as part of the Marsh Community Series. Having said that I would assume that is as a supplement to training and not instead of.

So, presumably our faithful trackwatchers have all retreated to the pub..!  Might be time you gave them a good dressing down, Andy, as they are letting the team (us) down!

I rode passed Gosch’s this morning and no one to be seen although Melbourne Victory we’re setting up.

I was thinking the same thing. Won the first preseason match of the year.  Job done, pack it up boys.

I can't recall from previous years, are in season training days the same as preseason?

With games now on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday I think training is now a movable feast.

I swung by for a brief time late Monday morning. Only a handful still there.Gawn, Brayshaw, Hannan, C Wagner and Chandler completing some fairly serious repetive 100m run thoughs.

Bennell was basically alone but fortifying to see him really striding out along the wing with numerous repeat efforts followed by multiple raking 50+ metre drop punts to one of the fitness staff. All class. One can live in hope!

Thanks, Martin!  Appreciate whatever morsels you guys can throw us!

The secret opposition scott was out watching a secret closed session, but  his Cover was exposed, and got his [censored] kicked by Matthew Whelan.

Petracca is training the house down. HB could be anything.

May turned up looking like a footballer.

Do we have a whipping boy yet this year?

Oscar or Weid i’m guessing.

Weid is just edgeing out OM at the moment.

Weid got 20+ touches playing in the ruck and is smashed on here.

Frost is spotted in Hawthorn colors and Omac gets whipped on here.

It's not great.

Hope? Not for me.

He really does have these great skills and I see him using them in the red'nblue to our great advantage; currently, he is just in a 'refresher' mode at present after re-energising his commitment to football. I'd just like to think that he is relishing and enjoying his new home, and the dwellers within. Recuperation is past, it was just in a timeframe outside the end of one season and the beginning of another. He's going to shock the naysayers and us, as well.

Agree, he has a contract, the whole club behind him, proper rehabilitation, everybody just keeping a lid on

Nah sorry, I get told things that I am trusted to keep to myself, unlike some, so don't like to spoil the arrangement

I also noticed the highlight reel for Kade Chandler - this is the first time I have seen him in the jumper.

I recognised quite a bit about his game, albeit a reel of 'seconds' football or two, nothing in the senior team as yet. Still, my recognition, amongst his peer group of opponents - and with his interaction with teammates, particularly up forward  - is distinct in my mind to be very similar to that of Leigh Matthews early on. Except, he has greater pace, is a more accurate kick for goal and seems to run on with the ball in good opportunities up forward.

I hope these qualities are being nurtured, and can be seen more easily by regular viewers of his performances to date.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
