Training Ground?

So by the sounds of it we are going to end up with everything we wanted, virtually MCG sized ground, state of the art training facilities, Admin and FD combined in the one place. Function facilities for a Social Club and events. All in the MCG precinct.

Only issue is it's not what we expected if we were hoping for a permanent MFC owned stand alone facility. In the short term we don't have the cost of building our own standalone facility in the long term we don't have our own standalone facility.

Will be really interested to see what the deal ends up being are we just long term tenants like we are now or will they negotiate some sort of long term security to be there which isn't an exorbitant rent. From memory the whole club was going to be in AAMI but the rent was so exorbitant we had to split the Admin to the MCG where the MCC looked after us on rent.

Wondering where you saw that info?

Unless I've missed something, our staff will still be spit between AAMI (football) and the MCG (admin) , no change in our training facilities in the near future and our coaching and support staff will still need to lug all the equipment across Swan Street and back again.  The improved training Pert talks about seems to be about drills etc.

I would be more excited if there was a time line for when the elements you mention will be achieved, not just a bigger oval but not MCG width.

Sorry to put a bit of a dampener on this news but until the overall plan is spelt out with a timeline this is a bit 'meh'.

Thanks for this @Lace Out. Is there any chance you could overlay the measurements of the new dimensions to see how they are going to fit it. Looks like a lot of trees are going to have to be replaced. A surprising political commitment by the Govt given how controversial cutting down trees is even if they are replaced.

So Gosch's will be unavailable to us smack-bang in the middle of finals? Is that an issue?

We've been mainly training at Casey this year anyway.

I like trees. I like trees a lot. I am also aware that new trees can be grown.

Yes LH it does sound like a poli before an election promise. However if we just get a bigger training ground in the next couple of years I will be happy.

Leave the trolling to @Olisik thanks

Be fooled if you insist, but Pert crowing about getting not even a tenth the funding of other clubs does not fool me.

He’s announced an overpriced landscaping package, and you’re fawning over his ineptitude.

Give us something you bloody impostor.

Gonna beat the buzzer here. AAMI Park is being extended to accommodate the womens football world cup in 2023. Once that is over, a portion of the upgraded facility will be handed to us along with the bigger oval. Should result in our own gym, rooms, etc.

Seriously?  I can't see  how a bigger paddock helps us catch up on all the clubs with massive facilities, many of which are planning government funded expansions.

A bigger oval is barely a fraction of the New Facilities the club has been talking about for the last 4-5 years.

At least give us a time line to deliver the rest but to leave it at 'a slightly bigger Gosch', is underwhelming.

Thank you.

The club didn't announce a new facility as Tom Browne forecast.  And while I appreciate the reporting by @Gougaand @daisycutter, if correct why wouldn't the club say such.

Happily to await more info from the club to say it is more than a bigger paddock.

Perhaps I start from a different perspective LH. All I want are better training facilities. The rest is of little importance to me. Bigger training  ground, sounds good.

Like you I'm not all that interested in social facilities but the training and staffing facilities interest me a lot.

This is the only article I could find on mfc website gosch-s-paddock-to-undergo-redevelopment

It talks only to the ground itself not to any other aspects of our Long Term Home for all staff and comparable training facilities.

I'm getting very repetitive so will stop posting on this.

The blue lines represents the MCG length x Marvel width boundary to boundary.

This excludes what seems to be an approx  5m run off to boundary fence around the entire ground.

Might need a few rusty nails and hammer to shift the ground west.

Press conference currently underway

$3M funding to upgrade Gosch's Paddock to "AFL size" (presumably that's MCG equivalent)?

$2M from MOPT, $500k from the AFL and MFC.

LH can you imagine the State Govt making this announcement and MFC announcing shortly after we won't be using Gosch's because we couldn't reach an agreement with Govt on facilities and are forced to go elsewhere.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
