Ok thanks for letting me know where you're at.

Where I'm at is top secret. Asio is looking for me and Harry as we speak....Apparently Eddie thinks we're mounting a coup against him, or something.

Eddie believes we're mounting a REAL lumpen Proletariat revolution at Collingwood....?‍♀️??

Oh well..

I don’t really care about the personal barbs - I just don’t think they’re especially necessary. I have a full kit bag in terms of friends and life experience, such that getting invested in petty stuff with people on a footy forum who I don’t even know is just a waste of time and energy.

ProDee took the time to step out his views, and I actually like to read considered (albeit differing) perspectives on matters of interest - hence, the thank you.

I believe I inferred that. harry confirmed, hence his impassioned speech before he defected to the Demons.

You're a good man, Ron, and looking back at my post in the cool light of the next day it was ridiculously harsh.  I was surprised when I reread it.

Laumumba was the most overrated player in the competition (by far) during his time at Collingwood, but at least he was interested in playing football at that stage of his career.

By the time he came to Melbourne it was all about Harry and what the club could do for him, and football was just a means to an end. He was soft, lazy and completely disinterested.

Some of the rose coloured assessments of Lamumba as a Melbourne player at the time were sickening to read.

Harry was a decent running defender at C'wood but by the time he got to us, all that drinking of bathwater had gone to his head and he thought he could crash any pack, thread his way through any heavy traffic, and hold on to the pill as long as he felt like.  Ended up pretty much completely ineffective. It was a relief when he realised he was bigger than any sport and retired to let the world ruefully contemplate its egregious error of not fully appreciating Harry.

Oh boy, I've raised a hornet's nest from the dead. His ears are burning. Sorry I raised it. Truly.

Let us forget about Heretier Lumumba. Onwards, forward, 2020 looms, don't look back...

I think Heritier Lumumba was very misunderstood by the AFL community. As fans, we're often crying out for players that don't fit the same mould or give us the cliche 'the boys played well' answers to media questions. Lumumba was a player unafraid to express his own personality and intellect and got ridiculed by the AFL community for it and also copped a bit of racial discrimination while he was at it. We wouldn't accept that kind of treatment of many players, but many fans were happy for Heritier to cop it because they found him too confident or self-assured, ironically traits common to many much-loved AFL players.

If you're interested in understanding a different view of Lumumba, I recommend watching Fair Game - a documentary about his football journey that was made a few years ago. It used to be available free on the SBS website. It's also available on many university databases if you're a student. Otherwise it can be rented online at https://vimeo.com/ondemand/fairgame2

The documentary doesn't go much into his time at Melbourne and the reasons behind his retirement (other than retirement) but provides a good insight into some of the issues faced by footballers who come from different backgrounds, and the multi-faceted nature of footballers (they're humans too, and football is just a workplace for some)

Heritier Lumumba - the prince who was promised. Quite the character.

No idea what he is up to post footy.

Maybe he married a TV star and lost interest in his princely duties.

No-one was as soft as Jurrah.  Not even Jackie boy.

Seriously. Jurrah soft? Fragile, maybe, but I never felt he was soft.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
