It just occurred to me that it might be insurance related?  As he's not yet a member of the club, and only has permission to train, could it be that he's only insured against training accidents? (I know, clutching at straws ?)

The smoke where I am (inner west near Marrickville) is the worst we have had to date.  I went out for a coffee and my daily constitutional, and arrived home with a sore throat and heavy lungs.

I hear that liquid refreshments are a good antedote, so if you're suffering too much, head in to Dulwich Hill this Saturday arvo where my band is playing.

I will definitely make it to one of your gigs but not this weekend. I'm on crutches. Having a final Op next week which ends 3months of being virtually house bound. Old footy injury gave up the ghost. I'm heading to Old Melbourne town the same day and will be down there just in time to make it to the final training session in Melbourne next Friday. Will be there with a Jack Trengove type kneeling scooter. Hoping to take Saty on for a few laps of Goschs.

Had a quick look at some of your YouTube clicks. Love your work!! Mate we need you to get the band together at our pre game NSW Demons events. Alas no games in 2020. Hopefully 2021.

Have a great time in Melbourne... I head down with my youngest son in early to mid January to catch training in the new year.

Those YouTube clips probably all have different personnel in the band.  Last Saturday we had a couple of members of The Hitmen sit in for a number, while one of our regular full time guitarists (who's currently holidaying in NZ) is a guy named Ged Corben who was a founding member of The Cruel Sea and was a member of the Lime Spiders.  Would love to do any pre-game events you have going.

Don't know why we didn't think of that before. Last year's venue at the Entertainment Quarter would have been perfect. There's no games up here in 2020 so hopefully 2021. Will pass the idea on to Sally T.

went on a 3-day camp with Goodwin,  they learnt about life as a Demon

reminds me of the program the Hawks have, new recruits to the Kokoda trail.

Terrific initiative.

I wonder if there was any mention of potential fire walking ?   ?

There could be any number of reason why he did not or could not go. It doesn't mean he wasn't invited.

Oversight is a probably the wrong word. I would hope he was invited if he could be.

No the reason is he is not officially a Demon as he has permission to train and then the Club can offer Harley a rookie list spot.

Really  to think that the Club wouldn't ask him if they could shows how negative and unrealistic some fans can get!

Your speculating as much as I am expect you are claiming it as fact. Wasn't there someone on one of our camps in nt on our permission to train list who got picked up by Fremantle as a rookie and had to awkwardly say goodbye?

No I don't officially know anything RL.

But AFL have rules and procedures and he is not under a contract to Dees yet, also which prevents some freedom to Harley.

Harleys  main role is now to convince while with the Dees that he is worthwhile for us to give him an opportunity and offer him a contract some time up to March via the SSP method.

Don't think that's correct.

Jack Hannath was a train on player and he managed to head up to Darwin to our training camp for a few days.

If that's the case it gives you an idea of how tough his position is this summer. Allowed to train with us but treated as an outsider and not part of the team. Then on 6 March, if he makes it he's suddenly part of the team he's been treated as an outsider to. Seems very short sighted and culturally backwards. Wouldn't you want to give him the best possible chance of success on and off the field. I would have thought being made to feel a part of the Club was more likely to do that than being made to feel that you're not part of the Club.

There is a photo kicking around of May, Bennell and Lord Nev (the original) at a recent sporting event. I'm confident he is being made welcome. Alternatively I could say "long bow'', "storm in a tea cup" or other suitable expression to call "BS"

You might be right. I might be right. Your prerogative to  call BS. It's that time of the year. Your opinion's no less BS than mine.

He might be getting specialist calf treatment for all I know. Or he might not. Who knows.

You are not following the logic; because you don't know therefore I am calling "BS".

There is a difference between guessing and an opinion based on well-defined facts. You exhibit all of the former and none of the latter.

You are absolutely guessing. This is not that unusual on this forum.

I'm saying there have been a number of examples where Bennell has been included, welcomed and he gives every indication of enjoying his time and the opportunity being given to him by the Club.

You're suggesting the Club is showing poor support to him on absolutely no evidence. I will call "BS" on this all day and please stop pontificating about things you are guessing at.

Absolutely agree DW

Far too many scribes who don't understand situations call our Club to be doing a half glass empty action.

The decision to give Harley the opportunity to achieve his well stated and longed for ambition ( suffering to be fair a number of injuries during the process at Freo snd also straying from the AFL standards on 3or 4 occasions ) is one of the biggest snd most exciting acts from our normally conservative hierarchy.

Why upon g..s earth would we jeopardise this wonderful opportunity to get a potential A grader into our forward line as another X factor in our most lack lustre part of our team in 2019 with either neglective practises or perhaps potentially dodgy rules practices or have carried out all matters according to the Hoyles rules of the AFL.

From  the outside all is going As planned except for s number of negative and mischevious   comments completely unfounded and unwarranted.

As RossLyon says Let the Cobblers Cobble And we perhaps should  place our trust in The FD and Coaches snd Fitness experts who are a great deal closer than us to what's appropriate instead of second ( or more like Fifth) guessing.

This could no one of Footy's great stories and lead to MFC greatest  moves as we attempt to reach the top standard in the best National Sporting Competition in the Southern Hemisphere.

Your blind faith in the club is just as bad as always assuming the worst. I just thought it was strange that Bennell was not part of the group. There could be a valid reason or the club might not have invited him. To assume the powers to be are always right leads to situations like the essendon drug saga. This is a club that tanked, had associations with Dank, didn't review a massive finals loss that led to a miserable season, sent out finals guide before we had even made the finals and some examples of stuff ups. I don't believe in unwaivering belief and I think it's healthy to ask questions instead of assuming the best.

Asking questions is one thing but presuming all sorts of negative and weird circumstances is another.

Virtually assuming malpractice and complete incompetence by officials of the Club bordering on pure conjecture is not in the best interests of anyone.let alone the Club desperately trying to lift itself after the hell of this season.

Of course the Club (and indeed most Clubs) have made errors some about as ludicrous as the assumptions why Harley didn't go on this "camp"

Some supporters have a siege  mentality and are constantly critical of just about everything just baying for blood.

About time the half glass emptiers showed some faith and confidence in the recent decisions resulting from the disappointment of 2019.

Judgement can then be made at the end of the season depending upon results!

The examples you've cited are either irrelevant, speculation or incorrect.

In keeping with the theme of this thread.

Which ones are incorrect? The only one which you could argue is speculation would be the tanking and that would probably be because the afl didn't charge us on it. If you take your rose coloured glasses off it's pretty clear we tanked.

I don't think anyone has straight up said the club have not invited Bennell because the truth is none of us know. I think this thread has spiralled into two sides of the fence.

There are two sides to the fence Deefiant. There is no middle ground on any subject discussed on here.

It is obvious on here  on so many levels.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
