Club will unfortunately have to make a tough call here I think... The fairy tale we all hoped would come to fruition is just that - a fairy tale.

Must be devastating for him to get his hopes up over that surgery.

I think you are being unrealistic if you didn't think there was going to be hiccups. The club would have been expecting this to happen.

Which Selwood?

I'd hardly consider May and Melksham as peripheral for some that have spent, or are presently spending stints in our rehab group, though hopefully they are back our of it soon enough.

To be fair, BPP did say 'most' of our injuries have been peripheral.

The bonus here is that it looks as though May and Melksham are only minor and, as you say, aren't too far away.  Nor should their injuries hamper their ability to be ready for Round 1.

Yes and no... my point was probably more around the surgery he had and the hope we all got from it - including Bennell. Whether it becomes apparent that it’s been a total failure remains to be seen... and if a hiccup was expected as you suggest.
I desperately want him to play for us but there might be another Marlion Pickett in the wings somewhere we can rookie but I wouldn’t mind if we gave him the year either given we’re currently pretty healthy.

I'd sign Bennell to a one year deal. No brainer really. So he's had a minor calf tear. If we get 2 or 3 games out of him come the end of the year, versus a VFL player, I'd still like his class off an interrupted pre season.

The amount of injuries and who they're affecting is a little concerning however touch wood right now we haven't had major setbacks (ie season ending). We're still a lot closer than last year to having our best 22 available for round one (not including Bennell in the conversatio until he's able to get himself to the right level of fitness).

Anyone have the inclination to create an injury list with estimated time out?

seems to be about 8 injured at the moment but hopefully only a couple not available for round 1?

Anyone know the reasons the following players are in rehab?

  • Jake Melksham
  • Mitch Hannan
  • Oskar Baker

I'm trying to compile an updated injury/rehab list.

Oscar Baker was in full training yesterday.

Mitch and Melk were in advanced rehab.

Anybody know what is wrong with Petty?

So at this stage, having a guess i would say our injury list is,

Gawn, Melksham, Spargo, May, Bennell, Hibbered, Vandenberg, Pruess, Brayshaw, Hannan, Petty.

How did that blow out in a short space of time.. only at Melbourne hey..

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
