I thought an interesting comment from Tim was that he wanted another high pick, but didn't really have anyone in mind and would take the best player there at that pick.

That could be true or not, but he certainly keeps others guessing, which could lead to some more movement.

was that Scoop Maclure’s Geelong microphone at the presser? Could’ve been any one of their’s really…

I am getting pretty annoyed that McLure is referred to as Scoop, as that is actually my nickname and I have had it for 50 years, so he should get another one. Mine was accurate.

Tim, IMO, has remained very restrained in answering Sam Manure's questions.

I would have said "Sam, you've banged on about Clayton being desperate to get to the Cats for two weeks. If you'd listened to Andrew Mackie you would have heard that it was Clayton's manager who contacted Geelong believing that a change of club would be in his (Clayton's) best interest. Given that the manager would have picked up a tidy commission on a new contract, it certainly would have been in his interest for Clayton to move to Geelong."

We have engineered 4 picks inside the top 12 in the past 2 years. For a club that has been at the pointy end of the ladder most of that times, that is a great result.

Apologies if triggering but if it makes you feel any better I always assumed Scoop of the Sam variety was a reference to a pooper scooper

- One of them (Duke) was linked to LJ (who we acquired by finishing very low in ‘19)

- one of them was because we finished 10th this year

- one of them (9 this yr) we’ve paid a hefty price for, both current picks and future

I think we are going ok on this front but I’d stop short of being amazed about how we’ve do it after ‘being at the pointy end of the ladder most of the time’

Maybe.

Success is not linear though. There are ups and downs. You have to make the downs count and I think we have done a reasonable job at that.

Not so the ups. We should have collected another flag imo

McClure's smacks of self appointed nickname syndrome.

He definitely does have players in mind. Im confident we have targeted a player at 9, who will likely will be gone by 13 which is why we shifted our strategy to targets the dons pick instead of GCs.

But like a good club we won't show our hand.

I wish.

It was because I actually was first with all the news for my mates. They would say what’s the scoop today. Then they started calling me scoop and some still do today.

I even have a cap with Scoop printed on it.

I'm not so sure that was the reason. GC were being difficult to deal with and everyman and his dog were trying to get p13

The Dons had a need for all our picks so they ended up being a better suitor. Maybe others hadnt tried Essendon because in years gone by they have been so difficult to deal with?

I think our team does a good job overall. .We get dudded sometimes but only if we want to do the deal and generally only if we dont need some of those higher picks

Other teams know that we are good to deal with and I suspect that gives us some good capital in dealing

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
