When will this club get serious about winning flags?

Last year we made a prelim and got smashed but it was pats on the back for all.

This year we've been garbage. Again.

In my humble opinion,  we wont be serious until we have an actual home. A real home. Not sharing with storm et al. With a social club for members etc. I appreciate finding a site for this is difficult but until we have this and stop accepting mediocrity we will never win a flag.

Thoughts?

Tend to agree BR.
We are in effect homeless, or sharing the rent with a rugby club at best.
Need to grow up and get our own joint.

I do think a home base would help but really I think what we are lacking is a way to embrace and sell what we've got as a club.

The Giants are so tight knit as a club because they've taken their disadvantages and turned them in to positives. Small club = community feel between the fans and the club. Fledgling start up = huge bond between players, coaches, staff etc.

All the things we see as a disadvantage:
Shared training base - great access to storm/victory etc
Open training oval - easy connection for players to loyal fans
Small membership - great heartland supporters
Seen as toff's - embrace the city and top end of town image in a positive way

I really think under PJ we started to get things right about how the club saw itself. Hard working, community focused, cared for each other, positive with a plan. Get back to those things and we can overcome things like training ovals and home bases.

Ok, this is th3 same post we have seen and read a lot since seasons end.

2019 we were worse than [censored], we are all unhappy, we all know this, but all you are doing is stewing on the past and unpsetting yourself and a few others, get prepared for the next batch of disappointing losses, it’s the pre season ?

Stewing on the past?
It's about setting up for the future.

Get Serious you say?

I really don’t see the point. While some might say he is a genius of sorts, most of his best work was done during the 80’s. Let’s get real. He hasn’t put anything out since Mr. Accident and would be of marginal value at best.

I see lots of complaining but no solutions to this issue.

I also want the Melbourne Football Club to be serious.

I hope that this means the continued overhaul of our football department.

I am keen to see Mark "Choco" Williams at the club in some capacity. But we need more than just that.

Things will only change if we have the right people involved at the club and they are given the freedom to make those changes.

It will certainly be interesting what happens now in the off season with who the Demons can also recruit into its football department and on to our playing list.

Definitely worth analysing how Richmond turned things around over these past few years as well. We might be able to learn from them and other clubs who had had Premiership  success.

Ah, yes. Thank you for posting this on 15 threads this morning. ?

Are we talking about the same Choco Williams who left the year before Richmond completely turned themselves around?

Gotta let the message sink in.

And the same Mark "Choco" Williams who won the 2004 Premiership for Port Adelaide and was a positive influence in helping Dustin Martin develop into a great player? Yes.

If you have better solutions to our current predicament then please feel free to enlighten us.

Heard Choco on the Radio this morning

I would love to have him employed at the MFC.

He still has a genuine passion for players and the game

Glad we agree on a few things!

By any chance, do you know what radio station Mark "Choco" Williams did the interview on? I will try and find a podcast online somewhere.

This off season is going to be brutal.  The quality of threads and posting on here has been nose diving remarkably for weeks.  It's not going to improve any time soon.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
