Clearly two very different versions of holding the ball.

Who is 35 GW$?   Just throwing elbows to the larynx then kneed same guy in the head when on the ground. Dirty dog.

They get the Greene light from the AFL don't they.

Boomtish

Maybe, but these constant elbows to the ribs and the kidneys are unnecessary.

So pay a free. But don’t tell the players the rules, it is not right

WTF was that holding free just on the siren?

Looked like a 50/50 or the Lion being held. Was that the showman Chamberpot who paid that?

Tomlinson watch:

5 possessions and just directly cost his side a goal with a kick into the man on the mark.

Me thinks he’s mentally checked out.

I hope they are not getting him to play wing (as has been reported in the media), has been very poor so far.

While he is better than some of our fringe players it will be a terrible decision if it takes our ability to pay for a quality player in the future away. I can't see where he fits into our team.

Agree with you there.  But just because it 'has always been part of the game" does not justify actions which have nothing to do with the game.  If I wanted to watch boxing or karate, I wouldn't go to the footy.

It’s a physical game. Niggle has always been part of it

Certainly a physical game but why should good players in particular have to put up with incessant jabs (Essendon excepted), punches and elbows.

Times do change - how many games would Jack Dyer or Ted Whitten or Leigh Matthews play in a year nowadays?

Lions being a bit Melbournian dominating inside 50s but only scoring behinds.

Bombing it in for the GW$ to take simple marks.

That is an interesting question, i am not against an Umpire calling a free. But it is Not his job to Coach players on how to play the game.

Lions may as well kick the ball along the ground when entering fwd 50.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
