I would like people opinion on who are our best 10 players based on value to the club, performance, talent and future potential. I have the following but do could easily be persuaded on relevant positioning.

1.  Gawny

2. Oliver

3. May

4. Salem

5. McDonald

6. Melksham

7 Brayshaw

8 Lever

9. Harmes

10.Viney

Not so sure about Oscar at number five.

Oscar is 45, soon.

i think Trac is definitely there. Much maligned and has done well with very poor supply. His 3 goals on saturday and his assists were very good. About time he gets some cudos.

Gawn, Oliver, May are in the elite groups at their positions.

Tom McDonald, Lever, Salem, Petracca, Melksham are all very good but need to round out their games and that's assuming Tom bounces back and plays like he did after the bye not in the first 10 weeks.

Harmes, Viney are next. That's the 10. It's a very good top 10, better than we've had in over a decade, but it's not perfect.

I still think Jetta can get back to a really good player for at least a year, there were some good signs on the weekend with some good spoils and his evasive skills and ball use. Brayshaw should be in the top 10 but it's all on hope he can bounce back. Fritsch another with excellent talent. That's 13 and after that it's not pretty.

Hibberd (who's dropped way off), Hore, Frost, Lockhart, Jones, Hunt - they are guys I at least trust to have a go. Unfortunately they are 14-19 on the list not 19-24.

Weideman, Spargo, Hannan, ANB, the perpetually injured Vanders, KK, Joel Smith, Tim Smith. It hasn't been a good year for the fringe players and that's before we even get to the next level of depth players.

I think Salem has gone backwards the last 4 weeks. His skills are no where near what everyone thinks they are, and 90% of it is due to the fact he never pushes back from the mark with any urgency, he tries to kick of 2 paces and the kicks are now not low and fast, they sit up  and are easy pickings for defenders, its because he has to clear the man on the mark.. my god its infuriating.. he inst alone either, and its due to this break neck speed play on get the ball going at every cost mentality the coaches have them playing,.

The club is a mess, its an absolute mess and it starts from the coaches box, its sat and rested on 2 finals wins instead of reacting to a shocking loss that exposed all our flaws the Prelim.

Noticed this myself.  To be honest Gawn has carried this side almost single handed all year.  Oliver has been capable enough and Petracca has been ok given the position he has been asked to play and the impact he has had on the scoreboard. 20 plus goals is a handy return with four games still to play.  The rest of them have been mediocre to completely hopeless.  May will be a great player if he can get fit and I still have high hopes for Lever.  Melksham has been sorely missed.

Based on 2019 it would be

1. Max Gawn

Daylight

daylight

2. Clayton Oliver

Daylight

3. Christian Salem

4. Christian Petracca

5. James Harmes

6. Steven May

7. Jack Viney

8. Sam Frost

9. Tom McDonald

10. Jack Viney

Get this out of his game and he becomes a star. JUST KICK THE GOAL!!!

IF Viney, Lever, Brayshaw, TMac,and May are in our top 10 players then we are in trouble. Will May play consistently and string many games together?  Milkshake has missed 10 weeks. Brayshaw  is not his usual playing best and struggling. Lever will need time and l am hoping TMac to be better next season. Yes we are in trouble. Maybe a top 5 however l can only see a TOP 2 and that is Gawny and Clarrie. Times are tough, that's for sure.

Yes, too true.

1. Oliver

2. Lever

3. Gawn

4. Melksham

5. May

It drops away after this but...

6. Harmes

7. Petracca

8. Salem

9. Viney or Brayshaw

10. Jetta (but is he finished?)

I'm not sure I agree, but if he has, it may be that it's because other teams are putting time into stopping him. I understand St Kiilda played Newnes on him in a purely defensive role. Whether that was the reason, Salem's disposals on Saturday were not as precise as usual.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
