If Gawn is upright the tank is irrelevant. Can't hurt getting fitter, but needs to develop his forward play.

The Saints have been busy yoyoing between Moorabbin and Seaford to trai there.

I don't recall Sandringham restricting MFC player development. In fact at the time when we won 3 or 4 flags there I thought a successful culture may breed success.

I am biased living 200m from TBO - the alliance years were great days for me.

TBO was a decent surface for preseason training though the ‘oval’ was not good for planning on playing at the MCG (or any other AFL venue perhaps with the exception of Kardinia Park) as it was quite narrow with straight parts along the wings.  

The Sandy coach was at the time in a totally separate structure and they were not participating in the MFC game plan (I think it was ND during most of the period of  affiliation) and had zero interest in MFC player development. 

And TBO was a good ground for access with parking and public transport.

Grass roots footy has done a pretty good job screwing itself also 'Pennant'...

In the single minded chase to the flag clubs throw ridiculous amounts of cash at players & it's not sustainable.

Others have talked about the good old days of the VFA and whilst the AFL playing Sunday's put the final nail in, the money in other competitions made it hard to compete.

A lot of clubs have spent themselves out of existence and alianated a lot of their kids along the way...

That's my point, don't ruck him for the rest of the year. Play him at full forward, kick it at him, and if he's not good enough to make something of it in the VFL then we'll know he's not going to do it in the AFL without further work.

He's primary here as a backup for Max and whilst it would be handy if his forward craft were better in the end it's his ruck craft that's important...

If Gawn (god forbid) goes down for 3 months yes - although we covered that reasonably well a couple of years ago without a real second ruckman. If we're clear that he's a break in case of emergency ruckman who might play two games a year if Gawn is fit then I can handle it, but can also see benefit in a forward who can have an impact rucking F50 stoppages.

Damn thats some good stats by Preuss, Granted he didnt really have much in the way of opposition. Hes a very good VFL level footballer but still has a long way to go to get to being a semi decent AFL level player

I actually believe Preuss is an above average tap ruckman already but needs to work on his fitness  and agility.

He’s  only 24 (I think ) so his upside is immense considering most ruckmen, including Max, don’t really peak until mid to late 20’s.

His attitude is impressive ,as evidenced by his best on field performance for Casey yesterday, despite having just been demoted.

i think we’ll be raving about our twin peaks  sooner rather than later

At half time in Sunday’s game at Trevor Barker Beach Oval, things weren’t looking too flash for the flailing finals prospects of the Casey Demons. Key forward Sam Weideman had suffered a concussion in his first contest and, with a few exceptions, the team was playing like a rabble rather than a finals contender. The Demons were 23 points in arrears to the Zebras and their season was headed towards oblivion.

It was the skipper Mitch White who spurred his team on by word and by deed - he finished with three goals and really rallied the team to a great comeback that saw the team’s final hopes remain on track with a 12-points victory.

But if White was the catalyst, then it was certainly ruckman Braydon Preuss who made up for the disappointment of being dropped from Melbourne’s losing side against the Eagles to record an outstanding 185 dream team points in one of the best ruck performances seen at this level. The Demon big man was easily best on the ground with 27 possessions, 14 clearances, four tackles and 59 hit-outs. He even kicked a goal as the cherry on top of his stellar performance.

If there was anyone who came close to the same stratosphere as Preuss then it was Jimmy Munro who recorded 18 kicks and 12 handballs on top of eight crunching tackles. He well and truly put the Saints’ Jack Stevens under the hammer and earned the accolades of all and sundry at the ground for his persistence and determination.

Twenty third player Ariek Lual showed some flashes of brilliance and will be worth watching as a player with definite X factor attributes.

There were some other good performances on the day - mostly in the second half - with defender Marty Hore returning from a broken collarbone sustained less than a month ago. Jay Kennedy Harris was, as usual, very steady and reliable at this level.

The Demons remain in ninth place on the VFL ladder and, following narrow losses in their previous two games, are very much an outside chance of progressing any higher on the ladder. This week they face a tough battle against ladder leaders Richmond VFL at the Swinburne Centre and will have to be at their absolute best to get the points and remain in the finals race.

The moment of truth is coming.

Run down from behind (with ball in hand...i think) at the G one arvo and king hit from behind by one of the dirtiest players I've seen play the game.  Pretty sure he returned in the second half with little impact.  Something that would never happen today.  He was out cold.  A bit like me after after half time at most games.

Yes still a dirty thug in my eyes AS.  Arguably the greatest by some but i have Ablett Snr & the King before him in that order.

Happily paid my $$ on two occasions to watch Ablett play at the Cattery.  The only time i've done so with Opp teams outside of GFs. 

The only downside was dodging all the thermoses, picnic blankets, director's chairs and avoiding the same question on a few occasions "aren't you at the wrong match?" (Demon scarf on).

Likewise. Ablett Sr is the only player I've ever made the effort to go to a game to see live.  We have the same three top players, but mine's in reverse order (ie, Matthews, Carey and Ablett Sr).
