I wouldn't mind noting in this thread who might make a good senior coach.

We'll need a back up option in 2020 pretty quickly, I fear.

Throw all the $$$ at Matty Scarlett. Fat chance he'd even consider leaving Geelong, but getting him would go a long way to helping us with our defensive issues.

I remember reading somewhere, pretty sure here on Demonland, that there was a bit of an admin shakeup happening on top of the football review. Seems like this is part of it.

That change certainly supports the club's goal of reviewing all aspects of the business.

These days football technology is critical.  By making this change it shows the club highly values this function.  I applaud that.  Now to find the right person to build the football analysis side of our operations.

Anyone know much about Andy Collins? Impressed by his performance today and his record looks very good also. Big raps on his ability to relate to players, build relationships and culture apparently. Might be happy where he is, but for anyone that knows more about him, would he be worth the call?

Just my weekly rant re: Assistant Coaches. And i know it will happen, I'm just even more intrigued that fact there is no talk about this at all. 2 main coaching positions still vacant, no one is talking about it, not the fans , not the media, not the club.

Oh well, maybe next week when i post on this thread we might have news.

I wouldn't mind John Barker as an assistant coach at the Demons.

How many coaching positions do we need to fill? I know we have Alan Richardson now.

But I still think it is 3 or 4?

I can tell you that a current assistant compared Goodwin to a premiership coach he’d worked under, and said he’d never experienced an environment as good as the dees, and would not want to work anywhere else. The premiership coach he’d worked with would often not even acknowledge him when passing in a tight corridor and no one else around.

I’d say there’s more good than bad (regarding Goodwin & the club) in those comments. I don’t see where treating people like [censored] leads to success.

Not following you. You say he is a Premiership coach. That is the success everyone is trying to achieve. Name the coach to add some context

@Mach5 any news on the appointment of Assistant coaches?JM said this morning that there are no more coach announcements?

All vacant positions have been filled, although obviously not announced.

Hope that all the assistant coaches are announced soon.

Especially having a kicking and/or goal kicking coach.

Would love to have David Neitz, David Schwarz, Jeff Farmer and Brad Green back at the club on a regular basis.

I know Aaron Davey was doing an AFL coaching course and was involved with our pre-season training last year up at the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.

As I have said many times, we need good quality football people at the club.

I'll probably be pretty angry if we don't recruit Mark "Choco" Williams as a development coach. He is being wasted as just a VFL coach. But I will wait and see as to who fills the vacant coaching positions first.

Happy with Alan Richardson coming to the Demons. So that's a positive step in the right direction at least.

Thanks M5. Seems utterly strange if positions are filled but have not been announced, and if that's the case and i have no reason not to believe you JM did not communicate the status of this very well in an IV last week.

Oh well, hurry up and wait i suppose.

With Richardson as the director of coaching he may have suggested that they had too many assistants last year and has simplified the coaching roles ie Senior coach, backline, forward line, midfield, ruck and kicking coach. The director may look after both coach and player development.

How many coaches does it take to change a lightbulb??

Who do we currently have in all those positions?

Soooo are we actually expecting announcements anytime soon or was it all just a myth.

We're still looking for one more Assistant Coach according to this article. Don't know why Mahoney said we were done.

@Mach5 has also indicated we have filled the vacant positions which I've interpreted as 3 vacancies will have 3 replacement.

Hopefully it isn't a case of the club thinking someone is over the line and then found to not be joining us.

What we know:  Richardson for McCartney,  the line coach (hopefully for forward ) referred to in the article for Rawlings.  That leaves the Jennings strategy role.  Hopefully, we will still replace him.

Maybe M5 can shed light on this.

I take it that the Jennings role wont be replaced and it will be just a line coach to be added.

Geez I hope not, we need all the strategy help we can get.

That would concern me.  Goodwin, Plapp and Chaplin inexperienced and we don't have a forward coach.  They didn't do well when we hit rough water.

Jennings' role was 'strategy', effectively our 'brains trust'.  He served us very well for until this year.  But so many things went wrong this year it can't be put down to his strategy work.

Goodwin needs more and better help than he had last year not less.  Extra unnecessary burden on him if Jennings is not replaced.

Tend to agree LN.

So we were told that all vacant have been filled, yet now report has come out that we are still in the hunt for another coach?

Something not adding up....

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
